You can teach the command sit very easily. Make sure the puppy has a propperly fitted collar on, Take his favorite treat in one hand kneel down in front of the puppy, lure the pup in to a sit by showing the pup the treat let him smell it so he knows what you have.. Then take treat while he is smelling it put the treat about 2 inches above his nose and push the treat over his head about to the area of his sholder he should sit. If he does give the command word SIT just before his bottem hits the ground. repeat this about 10 times. Do this sevral times per day. It should not take more than a few min. at a time. Puppys have a very short attention span and will get bord very quickly. so keep it short and sweet he will be happy for the extra attention and you will be happy with the progress made.

well, my staffie x lab is always been REALLY smart that i only had to say it once. Everything works with food. Buy some tiny treats. Show her/him the treat you have, let him/her smell it if you want. Then you start saying "sit" while pushing her/him on her butt and forward her back legs in a way that she'll sit. Be very patient, it might take a bit but do it everyday. I have 2 puppies: one is the one i mentioned above (whom is 9 months) and i have another one whom is 5 months. The 5 months one just learnt how to sit and it worked in a matter of 30 minutes max. Don't know if its because they are both super mega smart but eventually it works....

You can begin teaching behavioral habits at any time, but it's likely your dog won't even recognize it's own name for a few more months. We tried puppy classes and our dog got nowhere. We tried an obedience class a few months later and he is doing fantastic. A dog is more likely to be successful in a class or at learning basic commands when a dog is about 5 or 6 months old.

If he's a small puppy, you can usually just gently push his bum down, say 'sit', and give him a treat afterwards. do this a few times. then tell him to sit without pushing his bum down, and if he does it, then give him a treat. if he doesn't do it, try pushing his bum down again and saying 'sit', followed by a treat. it's probably going to take him a while to learn, since he's a puppy and just wants to run and play. train him for no more than 15 minutes per day so that he doesn't get frustrated and then he might get stubborn and not want to learn it at all!

It's the first command my dog learned. We got her when she was 8 weeks old, and she got it right away. Just hold a treat, and say sit, and move the treat a little bit towards them, but up. This move usually causes them to sit down because they are looking up at the treat. Then say "Good sit!!". Just be consistent. Good luck!

you just have to keep telling the dog the same command over and over again at first you should try to use treats to get the dogs attention and after they get the point you should move to a clicker because then you wont be overly giving them treat but its really the same thing. you can start training a dog right around the time they know there name and can respond to it. it will take along time to train them but the benefit of them doing what you want and when you say it will be well worth it.

It can take a while, We taught our dog how to sit by lightly pinching and pushing down on its hind end.
Then rewarding him with treats and praise.

Depends on how much time you are willing to put into training. If this is a purebred dog please look up breed specific info and use the training tips suggested.
