you have to realize that these days, a date is not similar to the past days.

The rule in my house is 16 and I have to meet the person they are taking out, or going out with, prior to the date, and I have to approve of them.

I got pregnant very early and I am going to try very hard to keep my children from making their life harder by making the same decisions that I made. (and was waaaay to young to make in the first place)

I am hoping that my children will find themselves in sports programs, outside activities that will eliminate time they have to be "free" and available for dating. (ok. so i'm dreaming but i am going to try my best)

I currently teach middle school students, and they talk about dating and sex and frankly it frightens me. I don't think they are ready for this type of relationship when they can't even stay friends with each other longer than a a few weeks. I don't think it helps that society pushes inappropriate behaviors on kids at such a young age. Girls are not dressing age appropriate, and cartoons are even pushing dating relationships at preteen ages. We need to go back to what dating was in the past, and take away role model status from rock/ pop stars. (my 7 year old daugther saw the pussycat doll commercial and said she wants to be on that show... OMG!!) i'm in trouble.

They'll 'go out' with people when they're still in elementary or jr. high, but it doesn't mean anything. I think 13 is a good age to begin large group dates, but it really depends on the maturity of the child, and the area you live in. And I don't think I would be okay with a date, just the two of them, until age 16, maybe 15. Again, depending on the child.

I didn't really go on my first 'date' until I was...just turned 17 about a month earlier. Went to the movies.

A one on one date, senior year. A group date at 15. Things are not the same as when I was a teenager in the 80s. Some guy told me when he moved away and went to college his girlfriend, who was still in highschool, a junior would come and stay with him for the weekend with her parents aproval! Can you imagine? That's how it is these days! Not my kids!!!!

My son is 14 years old and I will allow him to date 15 years old. You are right children these days are starting so early. You have 10 yr olds dating.

I just suggested to my son that he should wear condoms to avoid catching a STD or having a baby at a early age.

Hopefully never... I'm not ready to think about this, she's only three.

Seriously, with the morals I hope to instill in her, she can go on dates around 15-16 years old.

Group dates at around 13-14, single dates at 16. And that's for all four of my kids not just my girls. Though my husband seems to think boys can date whenever, *sigh* men. lol.

I say that at 16 they should be able to go on group dates and then after they can show you that they are able to be responsible they should be able to go on dates alone. Teens will be teens so just make sure you have a good relationship with your child and hope they will be able to be open with you on their dating life style!!!

My daughter was allowed to start dating when she turned 16. It didn't mattter to me WHAT a date was in the past or now...the rule was no dating until she was 16...period.

As a group, 13 or 14. One-on-one, at least 16. but once they're 16, they can drive and it makes it easier to hide stuff from Mom and Dad.

A child when he / she is adequately exposed to the details and limits of dating, when they are over the stage when one is plain curious about the other sex- not looking for genuine friendship or comraderie . then one is ready for dating
