Usually just a sell by date, you have about a day or two after the day to drink it, but if it smells bad dont drink it.

Yes. The expiration date on milk is actually an estimation of when the milk will start to sour. If the milk still has a semi-sweet smell to it, it is safe to drik. If you notice any kind of acrid or bitter/sour smell, it's best to dump it down the drain. If you happen to drink it about a day after it starts to sour, it won't do any harm (except a funny taste), but any time after that you might get a lovely stomachache from it.
FYI, I've bought milk gallons that go bad before the expiration date...and then I've had some that didn't start to turn until a week after the date.

The date on milk is a Sell by date rather than an expiration date. Milk should last approximately 5-7 days past the "sell by" date.

the expiration date is the date that the supermarkets should take the milk off of their shelves, however i wouldn't keep it for more than about 3 days after the expiration date, just cause its past that date doesn't mean it actually bad.

Milk is good for 7 days after you open it as long as it's been refrigerated properly, anymore and it's no good, whatever the date on the side says.

it may last past the expiration date but I would not suggest drinking it. It's not worth the risk of getting sick in my opinion...just go out and buy a new bottle is your safest bet.

When I was growing up milk was hardly ever thrown out in our house, because once milk goes "bad" it is buttermilk "I never drank it but you purchase it in the supermarket so is it bad? However my father always drank it and it makes really good homemade buiscuits.

Most dairy product claim to be good for 7 days after date. Look and smell your senses wont steer you wrong. Unless your drunk.

Well the milk is curdled by bacteria.. it's technically safe because you probably won't die.. but I won't be responsible for the GI problems you get.

Safe? yes as long as it doesn't smell or is lumpy. But at the same time i wouldn't drink it.
