"The Catholic Church embraces with hope the commitment to ecumenism as a duty of the Christian conscience enlightened by faith and guided by love…Jesus himself, at the hour of his Passion, prayed 'that they may all be one' (John 17:21)." -- Pope John Paul II, Ut Unum Sint, May 25, 1995.

The Catholic Church already has the following open dialogs with her sister Churches:

- The North American Orthodox-Catholic Theological Consultation
- The Joint Committee of Orthodox and Catholic Bishops
- The Oriental Orthodox-Roman Catholic Consultation
- The Polish National Catholic-Roman Catholic Dialogue
- The Anglican-Roman Catholic Consultation USA
- The Lutheran-Catholic Dialogue
- Roman Catholic-Reformed Consultation
- The United Methodist-Catholic Dialogue
- Southern Baptist Convention-Catholic Dialogue
- The Evangelical-Catholic Dialogue
- Faith and Order Commission, National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA
- Consultation with the National Council of Synagogues
- Consultation with the Orthodox Union and the Rabbinical Council of America

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

With love in Christ.

Thank you very much, Midge. Anytime I hear about the Catholic church reaching out and trying to mend fences with her daughters, it makes me think of that false prophet mentioned in The Revelation that makes everyone worship the beast. It would be a lot easier for a false prophet to make everyone worship something if they were all the same religion anyway. That's why I get concerned; I just don't trust the Catholic church. It seems all lovely at first blush: how sweet and Christian of the Pope to want to join hand with the Eastern Orthodox church and the Anglican church. But what is the ulterior motive?

Nothing really. Henry the VIII created the church of England because the Pope wouldn't grant an anullment to Anne Bolien. The whole church is based on a fat adulterous murderer. (That's the Episcopol church in the USA.) = )

It's called Ecumenism. It is called putting petty differences behind. It is called progress and unity. Anglicans and Catholics are virtually the same. As far as submitting to the Pope entirely, this is possible, but co-operation is more likely.

Some type of formal reconcilliation may occur however a full merge is highly unlikely. I think the Anglicans are just trying to slow the liberal influence that has been radically changing some of their doctrine.

I haven't heard this but I don't believe that's ever going to happen.

The "politics" of the Anglican Church would change drastically.

Sorry...I don't view suggested sites.

It isn't the entire Anglican community, it's the most conservative faction, that which is largely based in Africa. Read the article.

I did not know it but am not surprized

although if I were them I would not do it, there are too many issues that are problematic:
the catholic view of justification, Mary and baptismal regeneration would keep me away

there are, however, many stunning truths shared by both protestants and catholics

The possible move was the idea of the Islamic faith. They called it the "birds of a feather" effect.
