Can we design a carbon collector that we can drop anywhere and it will run itself with solar energy and collect carbon? We could then load a few thousands of them into a few Large Air Freighters and drop them over the mojave desert..

Get the idea? I expect we could develop different designs over time for different environments, all driven by solar energy and global energy.

Ideas?

Watched a prog last night to see anAustralian(?) scientist advocating the fertilisation of the oceans to encourage phytoplankton which will fix CO2 that will fall to the ocean floor as Carbonate and be removed from the environment He suggested barren areas of sea to minimise effects on other organisms

Nice idea, but why drop them in the dessert? the majority of carbon emissions come from cities not the dessert.

The oceans do just that. If we look after them they will save us.

We only record half the emissions we release each year into the atmosphere, they don't go to the already over deforrested rainforests its the oceans I tell you!!! lol.

they are called trees. the design developed over millenia to be the most efficient solar powered carbon collectors possible.

don't put them in deserts though. there are reasons they do not grow there. put them back in the rainforests where they are being taken from.

putting them in cities would not only absorb CO2 close to source before it has a chance to react with & poison the oceans etc.
but would also reduce the level of particulates and noise. and there is stong evidence that a hospital bed with a view of tree gives faster recovery, & workplaces with trees have less sickness.

and please don't fly your solution around in excessivly polluting transport planes. produce the solution local to place of deployment. (eg tree nursuries in city parks & waste lots)
