My grandmother had fraternal twins...on her 16th pregancy! Yes, you heard me, 16th! She has 17 children total, and her very last pregnancy was twins. So, in a nutshell, it is not very common. The ability to have twins actually skips a generation, so if your grandmother carried twins, as mine did, your mother would probably never, but you very well could. I am on my fourth (And last) pregnancy, and have not had twins. Thank goodness! I'm not looking to keep up with my grandmother! :)

I have boy/girl fraternal twins and I believe they are the most common type of fraternal twins. I'm not sure what the odds are but twins are not uncommon by any stretch.

I don't know numbers but I know its more common to have one of each than two of the same....fraternal twins is easier than identical twins. Not that anytime there are 2 of the same sex they are always identical....anyway, I like to ramble....
