Samson was heralded as a hero, when in fact he did basically the same thing as the attackers on 9/11.

"Then Samson prayed to the LORD, 'O Sovereign LORD, remember me. O God, please strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes.' Then Samson reached toward the two central pillars on which the temple stood. Bracing himself against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other, Samson said, 'Let me die with the Philistines!' Then he pushed with all his might, and down came the temple on the rulers and all the people in it. Thus he killed many more when he died than while he lived." (Judges 16:28-30)

Why is this seen as a great act when it's simply the death of thousands for a personal vendetta?

The bombers of 9/11 felt they were dying for a noble cause, too. Would you justify for every prisoner the act of destroying his/her prison as revenge for being held prisoner? Samson had killed thousands of Philistines. Wouldn't you recommend they imprison him to prevent further slaughter?

You conveniently overlooked the fact that he was lied to, imprisoned, & blinded. The Philistines (today's Palestinians) are directly opposed to the Israeli people.

not so
the comparison is superficial

1) Samson was a promised child by an angel to his parents
2) Samson was a prisoner against his will
3) his eyes were put out
4) Samson also was empowered by God miraculously
5) God gave Samson the power to push the beams miraculously

Samson was led by God... not the misguided bitterness behind Al Quaida types

interestingly,....Samson also was a picture of Jesus the Messiah, Samson did more in his death
than in his life

Samson was a Jew, not a Christian. I have never heard a report of a Christian suicide bomber. It is repugnant to Christians on too many levels.

Yes the bible is a sad book. Morals come from society not the bible.

The bible is clear that you should follow ALL of its laws. This would include stoning gays and fornicators. The bible didn't stop people from having slaves. It wont stop the progress in society either. Only a matter of time before it is all over for the bible.

I remember reading the story and coming to the conclusion that Samson was a psychotic.

I agree with you. but scripture is a game of pick and choose the passages to back up your claim du jour. of course, tomorrow you can do the opposite if it suits you. isn't the Bible wonderfully flexible and inflexible all at the same time.

Let him who has ears, let him hear.

Until you desire to listen, you miss the point being taught.
