I applied for a job at a call centre for the government. They called me in to do the written test (along with a group of people). Then, the following week, I was tested orally (mostly to test if I was bilingual-I live in Canada). It's been a week now, and I'm anxiously awaiting a call. There's no number to call them, so I can't do that. The woman who interviewed me said that she didn't know when/if I was going to be called, because she's not the one doing the hiring.
When do you stop waiting? Is a week to soon to lose hope?

If it was a private corp I would say you're not chosen, but you are dealing with the government. Everything takes longer with them. Often with govt jobs you don't even get paid for a month--at least in the states.
You probably have a chance at it, but just the same I'd keep looking. You may come across something much better. One door closes and another opens.

I work in State Government in the US and it took 3 weeks for me to hear anything. I have a friend that works for the Federal Gov't here and it took SIX weeks before she heard. If Canada is anything like the U.S it could take awhile. I sure wouldn't lose hope! Also, shouldn't you get a letter if you DIDN'T get the job? I wouldn't lose hope till you hear something one way or another.
Best of luck to you!

I currently work for a city government, and after I applied for this job, it took almost a month to hear back. I had given up and was about to take another job when they called me. I'd say it's too soon to assume you won't get it.

Don't just sit around waiting doing nothing, look into other jobs as well. If they still call you, good for you, and if they don't, then at least you already have made a start on some other leads.

I would carry on with my life...put out more resumes etc.
I wouldn't sit around waiting.
Did you send the interviewer a thank you note after your interview...that would be a good idea at this time.

you know persistence pays off. If you really want the job, just stop by the place and see if they have made any decisions.

Maybe you should wait but you should also try searching for another job. Then, if they call you, you can reject it or you can resign the job you have.
