Take him on lots of walks. I know this sounds like a coined answer, but it's not. Normally, dogs that are keep in a cage or fence who dig or pace suffer from anxiety. They need to run and explore. At first, he'll wear you out. You won't want to do it. But you have to try and keep up. Wear him down and then find a happy medium of time to invest each and everyday. If you love your dog... you'll make this sacrifice of time. They need exercise and enrichment. If you don't do this, he'll probably keep digging and digging.

Next, you need to correct the behavior in a firm but non-violent way. Keep a choke chain on him at all times and a use a long leash. Let him run around at leasure, but the very first moment that he starts to dig, you jerk the chain back sharply, one time and firmly say "NO!" Then guide him to some other form of interesting and enriching thing such as chew toy or a ball. If he takes the toy and starts to play with it, praise him and let him continue. If he doesn't take the toy, ignore him and wait for him to return to his inappropriate behavior for another correction.

Notes: Make sure the choke chain is on the correct way. If you have it on properly, it will give a slight choke when pulled and will release when you let off pressure. If you have it on backwards, it will give a choke when pulled and might continue to choke when you let off. Also, remember to not get frustrated. Be firm and loving in your correction. DON'T get agrivated! You don't want to "over" correct. You just want to make the point and the quickly be willing to reward good behavior with praise when he complies. Likewise, don't over praise. Just give a simple a "good boy" and a pat on the head... and don't waste your praise on him when he's not being "trainably good" while you're training him. That will only demine your affection and make less effective as a possitive reward. I know it might sound cruel, but you almost need to starve him of your "secondary" affection while your training him. Save it for a good reward and he'll appreciate it more when he earns it.

Digging, is a natural instinct for a dog. You cant really get rid of it, but if you dont leave them alone in your backyard by themselves, then it wont happen. But if you have to (like me) then make sure that whenever you are home, you cover up the holes that it diggs then spray apple spray if it keeps on digging in the same spots. Also when you see it digging you say "NO!" in a firm voice (NO HITTING!) and do it every time you see him/her digging. If you start to catch him/her digging often, then start punishing him/her. Put him/her into a spot where it wont have to go often and make up a name for it. Then if you start catching him/her after you start to punish, then start to say the name that you gave the punnishing "spot."

My neighbor says dad and the dog stops when it is doing something bad, becuase eairler in life the dad hit the dog often so the dog thinks that it is gonna get hit. (Dont worry their divorced now.)

It is a hard but worthwhile tequineque. I have no clue how to spell it! l0l

For our dog we piled bricks in the one spot he digs.

We also go out with him and correct him when he goes to the spot, which pretty much stopped him from going there in the first place.

Give the dog more excercise such as fetching a ball or frisbee. My dog calls the frisbee a "frizzy."

Next time you bring your dog to the backyard, get a leash and tug your dog away from all the dirt.

cover the hole up and put cayenne pepper over the area. No. it won't hurt the dog just irritate his nasal passages maybe. you might also try putting the dogs dung there. this is suppose to keep them from digging.

Put their poop in the holes and cover it up. After a while it discourages them. Or rocks

There are little crystals you can buy at most pet stores that smell bad to your dog, and they'll stop digging.

u go to it and slap its face when digging, but dont get mad at ur dog after it digged. if you dont like to slap its face get mad and yell and sqeez its tail hard if it have one. or slap its nose, this is the best way. it is harsh, but if u dont want hole its ok!!! make sure to doit while its digging or just after, and if late drrag him to the hole and shove his face in the hole and yell like hell till it cry out.
