I think our world is a very shallow place. People are very quick to judge others, especially those who are plus size. But these people are just as capable as anyone else to live a happy life. It's probably the people who are hating on these women / men that are dissatisfied with something.
I know quite a few bigger women who are beautiful, confident, capable, lovely, people. I think it's awesome that they have that confidence. To be comfortable in your own skin at any size is an excellent thing. All the power to them! I was never one to feel proud of the way I look, so I really admire those people who do.
For a big part of my life, I was overweight. Only recently, I had to change my diet (for major health / allergy reasons) and as a by-product, I lost 30 lbs. I do feel healthier overall, and better about myself. People treat me differently, though. I seem to get better service when I'm shopping for clothes, guys hit on me a lot more when I'm out with friends (doesn't matter, I'm married), I get a lot more complliments in general. Not that I'm complaining, but I think it's really bizarre how the world reacts. I'm almost offended for the old, bigger me. Also, in my field of work, I don't know if I'm taken as seriously now because I may seem thinner / attractive to the rest of the world. It's silly how all of this is over some weight!
I'm sure we just want to be ourselves and not defined by how we look to everyone else.

In the past year I have lost 90 pounds. I did it for myself...because I was unhappy with what I saw in the mirror and I wanted to change my life. I lost this weight by going to the gym 6 days a week and eating A LOT healthier.
Since I have been on both sides of the issue, I will NEVER tell someone they need to lose weight or laugh at them. If they are happy with the way they are, then good for them! If they want to change and ASK me about my weight loss I will tell them and give them tips on how I did it.
When I see overweight people at my gym, I don't make fun of them. I'm actually proud of them for wanting to live a healthier lifestyle.
The people that make fun of overweight folks are generally brainwashed by the media into thinking that we all have to look a certain way...and usually they have a low self esteem so it makes them feel better about themselves when they make fun of others.

Some people, like me, used to be overweight, and now that I'm not, I'm overjoyed at how I feel so much better, in every aspect of my life. But I never tell anyone that they "shouldn't eat that" or "get off the couch" unless they ask me for tips on how to lose weight. On the other hand, a lot of people really are just crude and mean to overweight people. But when I say to a friend that they should eat better, I only mean it to help them be healthier and live longer.

Because we've programmed to think that it's wrong to be big. It's all over the news about obesity and the health risks. Not to mention, the weight loss commercials are constantly saying that you'll feel better about yourself. If a person is a little overweight and it's not life threatening and they're happy, we should just let them be.

It's a society thing. If you don't have the shape of a super model and the face of a high paid actress you're not " ideal ". I think diffrently.

It's just old fashioned media brain washing. In many cultures women with curves are revered.
