they were born into? If Parrots don't go to hell for immitating people, why should someone raised as a Hindu?

I don't understand- why wouldn't parrots go to hell? They are scarey creatures...

Exactly. I think the most astonishing thing is those who were indoctrinated as children, and never truly investigated their beliefs as adults. They do not have the ability to discuss their faith openly because they see anyone with a different viewpoint, as someone attacking their person.
I, though, was raised a Lutheran, but after studying the Bible and talking to many different people came to understand the false teachings and the pagan practices of that religion. As a result I made the conscious decision to separate from that doctrine and attach myself to one in which I have found no pagan practices, lies or contradictions.
I believe it is everyone's moral responsibility to actually test their religion's teachings using as non-biased information as possible, with the understanding that, that with which they were indoctrinated with, might not be true.

Really if the stakes are so high, then how is it that people are so cavalier towards what they deem their eternal future?

youre right, people should look beyond the spectrum to what they are born into, (thats a christian saying this). It only brings knowlege wether you are religious are not.
