In order to work for law enforcement, he would have to agree to a background/ criminal history check. So they will probably know about the incident. However, it does not necessarily disqualify him from being able to be a police officer. Usually in situations like that, they will ask him about the situation, what happened, and etc. If it was reduced to a misdemeanor, I'd say his odds are alright. Might be a good idea to check into it with the department he is considering joining and find out what their exact policies are. But I would think most would see it as nothing to serious.

That's a tough one...I know cops that were arrested for DUI and stuff when they were younger, I think if it was reduced to a misdemeanor he may be able to, it depends on the department- the main thing is that he's honest about it! Admit it and then go on about how you learned your lesson and have improved your life- police departments aren't always looking for angels, they are looking for honesty!!

It can. Getting police officer jobs is becoming more and more competitive. When police departments are hiring, they usually have many qualified applicants for a relatively small number of openings. Any red flags can hurt your chances of getting hired by some departments. His chances of getting hired could depend on things such as what he was charged with, what the disposition is, what department(s) he applies with, when he applies, how well he does on written tests and during interviews, and how good a candidate he is otherwise.

In NY, a felony would eliminate your ability to become an officer whereas a misdemeanor would allow it. So, your friend can become a cop in NY. Other jurisdictions may have more restrictive (or looser) requirements.

O.K., you buddy has a misdemeanor record for Fleeing. This won't disqualify him but he has erected a huge obstacle in his path. If the department has a choice between him and someone with a clean record, he's toast.

You asked this question 26 times. Your juvenile problems won't stop you, but your obvious obsessive compulsive disorder will prevent you from being a cop. Cops already get a bad enough name in the UK thanks to a few idiots, we don't need any more crazy people like yourself.

Not in Virginia he can't.I feel sure he will not be able to pass the background check, especially for evading or fleeing.I bet 20/20 hindsight has not helped him in this situation.

If you have a felony conviction against you, forget about looking for law enforcement jobs.
