Have just started drinking red wine, and am wondering what others prefer as a favorite cabernet.

I've fallen in love with Trefethen cabernet. It runs around $35-45 (US) a bottle.

I've been turned on to Foppiano as a really good cab for the price, although I haven't opened it yet to be sure. The wine store where I found it said it had beaten out a large number of much more expensive cabs...it runs around $10-14

One that pleasantly surprised me was Big A ss Cab (no kidding).

If money is no object, then I'd go with a 1961 Chateau Latour or perhaps a 1945 Chateau Mouton Rothschild. They would cost roughly $25 000 per bottle at auction.

Otherwise, try the Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon from Margaret River in Australia. About $35 a bottle.

My favorite for very special occasions is Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet ($99). I more often drink Hawks Crest Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon which tastes great for $15.
