When solving a murder case, would you rather start from no leads and then end up with some leads, or start with a vast unlimted never ending leads and then end up with more specific leads

by sniffing the victim's thong. it should provide you with crucial information, like what they ate and what their bowel movements were like.

i believe the great sherlock holmes did it regularly.

Your question is curious. "Vast unlimited never ending leads" is obviously worse than "some leads." The goal here is to try to narrow it down to the perpetrator --not have a lot of different leads. That would be counterproductive.

By the way, how can "never ending leads" become "more specific leads"?

At the risk of not being your favorite answer, I would advise you not to go into law enforcement. Perhaps my suggestion is unfair, but I don't think that you thought about your question very thoroughly.
