I recently parked my car not knowing that I went over the curb. When I backed it up I obviously felt it. I looked at the front and it looks like it pulled off part of the under carriage (plastic bumper part below?) It looks like it will just clip back in but I can't get it to. Any ideas on how much it would cost to fix/replace that thing?

Only part is off .... the other side looks fine. I just don't want to hit a speed bump and jack itup more, plus it looks funky with half hanging off.

the vr6 is one of the worst motors of all time. Gas guzzler and not powerful at all. also 100k+ miles on a VW before 2006 is a HUGE risk. 1997-2001 jettas have huge transmission problems as well and VR6 motors are expensive to have worked on and to have oil changed. Its your call but i would never do it.

I have this same model and year. About two years ago I did THE EXACT same thing. I bit the bullet and had the entire engine shroud and lower valence replaced by the VW collision specialist in my area. cost $780.
Boy did that hurt, but I wanted the car back the way it was exactly before.

that's just the front valance (or front spoiler, or chin spoiler, or front lip). you are right, it's just held on by clips. if the tabs on the valance are broken, then you would need to replace it, if the clips just let go then you can reattach it using new clips (or the old ones if they are not damaged too bad).

it's not a big deal. probably designed to come apart (so you dont rip your front bumper off the car!)

i replaced the stock vallance with a european style and it cost me $100.00 for the part.

If you cant tell its missing by looking at the car dont worry its probably just your bash plate you dont need it unless you drive through long grass and stuff like that.

Them jettas are nice cars by the way.
