I was wondering if there are gonna be any charges for loading the maps onto the machine etc. etc.
I was looking at some from Wal-Mart and they were running about 300-400 dollars! GEEEZ!

The answer is for basic GPS you do not have to pay a monthly fee. The maps that are included with the GPS units are generally good enough for most people. Some units allow you to buy more detailed maps.

Other than that the only other fees you would have to pay is for special units that feature real time traffic monitoring and this is generally optional. The traffic monitoring allows the GPS to re-route in real time around traffic jams and accidents.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 350 that works great. It is free to use. If I wanted the traffic monitoring I would have to pay $60 for a one year suscription on top of extra hardware.

Hope this helps!

Pretty much all you have to pay is for file downloads if you go to another country or an area that is not supported, most GPS Devices have pre-installed maps for the U.S. and Canada

Hi. Only if you use it to fly. The FAA requires a monthly update to assure accuracy. I have an OLD Eagle which works fine for checking where you are.

Probally. I heard you gotta get the software or else it'll just tell you where you are, not where you need to be going
