I am looking for one with the most meat, least by-products(none would be better) least amount of grains. etc. My cat has had struvite crystals. And is recovering from a blockage(2 weeks ago).
And has been on Purina UR. I have read the ingredients on Hill's and Eukanuba and Eukanuba sounds better (but I don't know as much as I would like about pet nutrition)

My vet recommended the Purina UR. They quit selling Hill's because their patients wuold not eat it. If I want to feed my cat a premium cat food, how do I get the vet to approve it?

Unfortunately, ALL perscription vet diets are full of by-products and massive amounts of grains. Read any label there and you will see what I mean.
Hills and Eukanuba(Iams) are full of grains and contain very little meat, which happens to be "not suitable for human consumption"...so your guess is as good as mine as far as what parts of the animal go into those foods!(YUCK)
Check out quality foods such as Innova, Natural Balance, Techni-Cal, Wysong, Eagle Pack, Solid Gold, Nature's Variety Grain-free, (not in any particular order) and you will find what you are looking for, albeit at a higher price than Purina UR (horrible quality).
Best of Luck !

What does your vet suggest. Our cat had crystals and we do use the Hills Brand called "Prescription Diet", it is only purchased at the vets and our cat really enjoys it and the ash content and magnisium content are low, which is what you need to avoid crystals in the urine.
Good Luck if you are in real doubt, ask your vet what they recommend.

Stay AWAY from Hills/Science Diet! OMG! Go buy Felidae! (fee-leh-day). Just do a google or yahoo search on it and find a local store that sells it. Your cat'll bounce back w/in a v.short time!
