I just asked a question:

---Quote:
"Did God really created religion only for theologians and phylosophers to understand it well enough to be able to explain it?"
---End quote.

And a lot of people mostly Christians simply answered :
" Religions are man made, not God."

But surely, if religions are manmade then so is God since we know God through religion...

Aren't they contradicting themselves?

Ps: before you answer telling me that you new God before you knew any religions then could you tell me what made you choose a religion as opposed to another knowing that they are man made?

yes if every religious believer held that view, but not everyone does - a lot of people believe that their religion is the divine word of God and therefore it is not man made in their eyes and should not be contradictory in ours

I'm actually not contradicting myself because I'm no religion at all but I believe in God. Religion is man made because of one reason, some religions pick & choose what they want to include in their religion from the original idea of God. That is why it's man made. For instance, Catholic confess their sins to a priest because they believe they themselves can't talk to God directly. Christians don't do this because they believe they can talk to God directly. At some point in time, someone decided that confessing to a priest was better than talking to God Himself. That is just one example of what people mean when they say religion is man made. They all have basically the same principals but certain things were changed or adopted to suit whoever started the religion to begin with.

Religions are man made because they are nothing more than practices and rituals. A RELATIONSHIP with Jesus is what is needed. God is not man made, but he did make man. There are many ways in which to know God without religion, the main way, reading the Bible. You are right though, many do come to know about God through Religions, that is a given. It was not intended to be this way originally though. We have to go back to Adam and Eve prior to them disobeying to know what it was suppose to be. Having said that, it all has purpose though. We may not understand the exact reasoning for this right now, but we will one day. That is why a relationship with Jesus takes Faith.

According to Islam; true Religions are not man made. God created all humans starting by Adam. Messengers were sent by God or used to teach other humans the way to God and other details. Miracles were made by God to be with every messenger to prove that he is chosen by God to teach and show other humans the way and humans teach each other. Some humans gave names and changed some books to serve what they want, but the truth is Moses, Jesus, Mohamed (peace be upon them all) were Muslims. If you like to know more about that send me or visit the link I put here and read about our opinion in a trusted website.
I'm just a normal Muslim and trust God very much as I understand religion right.

I think what they are trying to tell you is that religion is viewed as a man made organized system of belief that generally seeks to understand purpose, meaning, goals, and methods of spiritual things. These spiritual things can be God, people in relation to God, salvation, after life, purpose of life, order of the cosmos, etc.

True belief in God comes through Christ. Christian, then, is someone who is a follower of Christ. The first use of the word "Christian" in the Bible is found in Acts 11:26, "And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch." It is found only twice more in Acts 26:28 and 1 Pet. 4:16. However, it is important to note that it is the true Christ that makes someone a Christian.

God made man to have a relationship with him, that is still the desire of God. Man made religion to try and replace God and to control other men. In the garden of Eden God walked and talked with Adam and Eve, after they sinned they made a covering for them self to cover there sin. (fig leaves) The first false religion. Man tried to cover their sin and replace God with what they could make with their own hands. Self idolatry is still the oldest false religion that is where we worship ourselves by saying their is no God and we don't need a God we only need ourselves. This is a lie we tell ourselves. The truth is we all do need God we were made to worship Him and to have a relationship with Him. Nothing else will for fill us. We try alot of different things but in the end they always let us down and leave us empty searching for something or someone else to fill our emptiness, only God can do that. He wants a relationship with each of us and each of us need a relationship with him. God isn't about religion, He is about a relationship.

Religion is simply the concept of man trying to be good enough for God. Christianity is not about being good enough. It is about recognizing that you're NOT good enough and you need a Savior.

From above we see that Christians don't know God through religion since its not technically a religion. Christians know God through reading the Holy Bible and through prayer and worship.

first alot of people even non religion say religion is mad made. and religion is a belief system. religion itself is not man made. it is the beliefs in that religion that are. i know many churches that original doctrine is different then what they are now. because they have let worldy things into there church and ok them. God did not create religions. he created us and everything we see. he created the Bible for us to follow. however many choose to look at parts of the Bible they want to to fit there needs. ask christians if tv is ok to watch? i believe it is not. there may be a couple shows that are not bad to watch however there are so many that are not good. and when you have tv most people watch them. i have a monitor for dvds and we watch veggie tales and other christian movies. but if i were a pastor and told everyone tv was wrong many would leave my church and find one that does not say tv is wrong.

We know God thru His WORD. Even without religion we would still know God thru the bible. One does not have to follow a religion to have a relationship with God

God and religion are man-made. The only thing that is real are the absolutes.

I can't understand how Christians can seperate God from Religion. Jesus Christ started his Universal (catholic) church on St. Peter. Jesus commanded the church leaders to baptise, and forgive sins. The Catholic Church throught the holy spirit chose the BIBLE canon and the FAITH (nicene creed in 312 a.d.)

If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained." John 20:23
