Year, make, and model would help. But more specifically, which positions of the 17 digit VIN do the codes you inquire about occupy?

I'll start you off. The first digit is the country where it's made.
1= United States.
I hope you look for this one (1) in the VIN of your next vehicle.

Position number 8 should be the engine code, if that's what you're looking for
