it depend of what kind of holiday / vacation u want to take or experience? if u want to enjoy city-holiday, u should go to Bali or Jakarta. most part of Indonesia is islands so it preferable to enjoy the natural-holiday, scuba dive, hiking, biking, sightseeing, etc.
if you wanna see natural nature, i suggest u to go to Bangka Island. they don't have much tourist attraction but they have beautiful nature and u wont see many tourist which i found could be so annoying if there was too many.

I think for holiday, you should go to Bali cuz the View is amazing.. But if you want to go shopping or look at museums, you can go to Jakarta..

For a tourist, it will be Bali, which is fairly modern in amenities. However the better sights will be in Central Java in the mountain resorts.

Bali for nice beach holiday and amazing art, craft and traditional culture.
Jakarta for cosmopolitan, malls, museums
Menado (Sulawesi island) great diving place ....if you heard of Bunaken.
North sumatra for food (a little bit spicy) and nature.
Irian or Kalimantan for more adventurous vacation, can vsit rain forest....a lot of rare plants and animals
