you get a pretty and small cake in the style you like then in the kitchen you have sheet cakes from Costco or Sam's club which are really good cakes cut and ready to serve and that's what the servers bring out or is place out on the buffet table no one will know once your pics are done and then the cake is taken in back for cutting and no one will care either as long as they get cake! i have been at several weddings were this was done and everyone was very happy!

There are a few different alternatives... you can do cupcakes, that is the latest trend. Go to www.cupcaketree.com for ideas, if you display them well and tie them in with your theme everyone will think you're so creative. You can get a large sum of cupcakes from Wal-Mart or Sams Club for a reasonable price. Another option would be to have a dummy cake, where you have one tier of real cake and the rest is styrofoam decorated with real frosting. You have a sheet cake in the back that you cut and serve to the guest and you and your groom use the "real" layer for cake cutting and pics. A third option would be to buy three plain double layer white cakes and decorate them yourself. You can find the pedestals to decorate the cake at Michaels. You could decorate the cakes with fresh flowers, or fresh fruit. You can also purchase pre made gumpaste flowers and gold or silver dust and such at baking stores. Good luck.

Find a cake you really like, and have them make it. I have had wedding cakes that cost over 2 thousand dollars that taste like cardboard, and I've had cakes that are from a grocery store that were moist and delicious. I don't think the cost has much to do with it, just go with one that tastes good to you.

We went the route of "auntifuzzie" and bought two nicely decorated sheet cakes from Costco. One was a white cake with cream cheese mousse fillling and buttercream icing. The other was a matching design, but it was chocolate with chocolate rasberry mousse filling and chocolate icing. Both were yummy. Each fed about 45 people. Together they cost around $30.

Costco really does great cakes for very little money. They have a few designs to choose from too. Find a friend with a membership and head over there to check it out!

A friend of mine had a bunch of cupcakes they made themselfs and then put frosting and decoration stuff at the tables to let people decorate their own. It was classy fun and let people interact with the couple they also had a "fake cake" which is a few pieces of plastic (In the shape of a wedding cake) decorated with real frosting by a pro just for looks.

Wal Mart has cakes. My friend got enough cake for 75 people for about $80. They also have larger cakes for a bit more.

i dont know any bakeries because i dont know where you live, but a bit of advice that all my wedding magizines seem to offer (im planning an october wedding too!) is get a cake that is only a couple layers for the actuall cake cutting, not all the layers even have to be real, you could have a false bottom decorated like the rest of the cake, then two actual layers, one you would slice, and the one you traditionally save (the top layer). then, you get a couple sheet cakes in the same flavor(s) as your cake, and pass out the slices from that to your guests. its considerably cheaper than having one massive layerd cake.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!
Depending on how many people you have invited, you could go with pretty decorated sheet cakes. I had 2 for my wedding, one was $20 and the local bakery decorated one for free so that one was only $12. Good luck!!
