I am 20 yrs old, and lately, my arms (around the inside of the elbow) and legs have been really itchy. Its winter, so its not from bugs or anything. My brother had eczema when he was little and it looks suspically like that, only not as severe. What would cause my arms and legs to become itchy in certain areas, and is it possible to 'get' eczema when I am 20? What can I do to lessen the itch? Thanks a lot!!

Eczema can run in the family, mostly if your family has a history of a lot of different allergies. Also, it can show up in different ways, one of which is papules that occur on flexor surfaces (i.e. elbows, knees, etc) in adults. What you'll want to do is moisturize with a very greasy mousturizer (the more oil and grease the better, gels are best then creams and then lotion). Do this immediately after bathing and whenver needed and try not to bath any more than once a day. You may also want to apply something like hydrocortisone cream if it starts itching quite a bit and unless it gets really bad you shouldn't need to see a doctor right away. Try treating it first and then go to the doctor if it doesn't get better. Also, kind of a little pearl about eczema is that it itches first and then the rash will appear.

hey well yes it sounds like a mild case of eczema. i have it and i'm servere now there are creams and oitments but for the real stuff u need a perscription. but u can also go to a local drugstore. and get sensitive skin lotion and lather urself in it and when u take a shower make sure its not that hot...or stay in there for too long oh and use mild Dove sope. this could also be an allergic reaction to something i suggest an allergist. its better safe than sorry.

Eczema is usually genetic so seeing thatyour bro has it, you probably have a mild case yourself. This is very common and very treatable for mild symptoms. The best thing to do is go to your dermatologist cuz he can give you a medicated ointment to heal and stop the itching. If you can't do that, the best lotion to use is a thick and creamy. Eucerin is great and affordable. You should be able to get it at your local drug store. Don't scratch, it just makes it worse!

well. I am 12 and i was born with eczema so i think you can't get it later in your life i think it is a little kid thing.
You should still go into a docter to get it checked out and see what it is.
You can't rely on the internet

Moisturize, especially after a bath or shower. The air is very dry this time of year. It could be exzema too, there is no age limit on it.
