Bowel Obstruction
Treatment Overview

If you have a partial or complete bowel obstruction, you will probably enter the hospital for treatment. Treatment usually starts with supportive care, such as IV (intravenous) fluids and medicines to relieve symptoms while waiting to see whether the bowel obstruction goes away on its own.

If these treatments fail or if you are diagnosed early as having a complete bowel obstruction, you may need surgery to remove the obstruction. You may also receive antibiotics through an IV to prevent infection.

If you have had partial small-bowel obstructions in the past, you may be able to watch and wait to see whether your symptoms improve. However, this is done only in certain cases under a doctor's close supervision. You will be on a liquid diet until symptoms improve.

Fecal Impaction can be removed manually by a doctor. Medications can be used to prevent reoccurrences. In rare cases, surgery may be required to remove the impaction and/or part of the bowel. Other ways to prevent fecal impaction from reoccurring are:

drink plenty of water
eat a diet with plenty of fiber
don't use laxatives on a regular basis
avoid prolonged bed rest
avoid medications that cause fecal impaction (antidepressants and excessive use of pain relievers)
exercise on a regular basis, Hope this Helps>

Purchase a couple of Fleet enemas and use those. If you are still plugged up after that, I would go to a walk-in clinic or the hospital. Impaction of the bowels is not a good thing.

They go in and get it out. You can try glycerine suppositories or even an enema first if you think that is what you have but if it isn't working get to teh hospital, it needs to be done, you could end up septic and in shock if the body becomes infected. Hurry and don't mess around too long, try it and then go it it doesn't work.

Well depends on how bad you have it. They can give you an enema, Or they give you this medicine to clean you out. Can't remember what it is called but it is. _____lite. Have you tried to take cream of tarter? Try a teaspoon of it in juice at night or anytime. That will usually clean me out in a couple of hours. You have to stir it in between swallows because it is grainy but it doesn't have any taste. In case you were wondering cream of tarter is natural and actually comes from grapes. So it is in no way harmful to you.

Some impaction may need surgery if you can not pass it. Try for one week naturally with water, enema, laxatives etc. then seek medical help or if pain starts may need medical attention sooner.

It does not necessarily mean cancer. There are other causes of obstruction - constipation.
