Someone who may not "be that pretty" may be the most beautiful thing ever seen to somebody.
I look at both, but most importantly is what someone's like on the inside. There are several girls I know that I would say are HOT, but they're so mean I would never have anything to do with them. I really can't say what I look for in a girl. It's all about being in the moment so to speak.
Being shy is a trait people have. If you're shy, it'll show. If you're not, don't try to be to impress someone. It's fake. Be yourself, and somebody will notice you.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. With TV so prevalent everybody is looking for gorgeous and it ain't gonna happen. Typically, each will bring about equal "amounts" to a relationship.
Popularity, money, looks are part of it. A real popular gal with no looks and no money could date a real rich guy with no looks and no popularity, etc. Its a balance of many factors. Most guys look for the archetype - nubile, sexually available, etc. can you compensate for plain looks with personality? To some extent with most, but there will be some who don't care and some who only care about looks. Humor kindness energy and being interesting and a good listener are all things we want more of. Packaging is also important. Clothes are the great equalizer.
There is somebody out there for everybody. The likelyhood of finding him if you're shy isn't the best. I am shy and I view it as a disability. Its something you probably should work on (for the rest of your life). But a lot of kids are shy in school and they turn out completely differently once they're out on their own. So I don't think it is wise to categorize yourself too early in life.

Well I wouldnt date a fugly girl... But if she is interesting and always puts a smile on my face... Then she has a good chance...
Girls are best if they are interesting, not boring... They should always be able to have an intelligent conversation if needed... They shouldnt be too negative, or be too stuck up or high maintenance...
If they nag on us too much, they get the boot...
Other than that... Most guys will sacrifice some things in search for others...
And shyness isnt always a bad/good thing...
It depends on what the guy is attracted to...
I think shyness is good, it means they arent whore-ish, and arent too high maintenance... And sometimes shyness is even better... because the shy ones are the smarter ones...

What exactly do you mean by "that pretty?" I ask that because nearly everyone looks in the mirror and wants to change something. If a person takes care of themselves and is kind hearted it doesn't really matter if their knock dead gorgeous or not. I work in the broadcast industry and I've seen drop dead gorgeous girls behave like real jerks. Be healthy and have a healthy attitude and you'll meet a guy who appreciates you for who you are. oh man.. there's a bunch of things. don't let looks get in the way. personality is a must - #1. Guys are perverts when it comes to looking at a girl. but not ALL guys are. guys do like girls personalities and such. so try not to be shy around him. even though that's cute but it's something guys get worried about in the long run. be opened to him if you can. and let things go on from there.

I think shy is sort of cute. My fiance was shy when I met her. So shy that she actually turned me down for a date twice (although she made up LOUSY excuses but continued to talk to me over the phone and IM).
Looks are for initial attraction only. They "get you a foot in the door," but after the initial attraction, there has to be substance and inner-qualities to keep a relationship going.

Im really sad to say this, but if a guy is asking someone out, he most likely will go after the ones he finds most attractive. The only exception that works most of the time is if they are friends first. Then they will get to know the personallity first then go out.

Looks don't matter that much. It depends on how the girl acts. Women with a high self esteem is a turn on. Women that carry themselves well is a big turn on for me. And a pleasant personality.

if she has a nice personity it dont matter if she aint that pretty.
the person inside gets some time to get to know, so in the beginning i think that pretty girls are the onez to get my attention. someone thats shy gets a hard time i guess, but its not a bad thing.
