My pork roast recipe calls for creole seasoning but the store didnt carry it. I picked up cajun seasoning as a substitute. Are they similar? Can someone describe the taste differences? Thanks

The only differnce that I am aware of is the in Creole cooking they use more tomatoes and Cajuns rely more on spices.
Both Cajun and Creole seem to be affect by the French. I also know that there are different cajun seasonings available but they mainly consist of chilli, garlic, onion, celery, mustard, and black pepper. I guess all in all I think your ok with the spice jar you bought.

2 tablespoons dried sweet basil
1 tablespoon dried thyme leaves
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon white pepper
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon celery seed

Cajun Seasoning Mix
table salt, 26 oz
cayenne pepper, 5 tbs
black pepper, 3 tbs
onion powder, 3 tbs
garlic powder, 3 tbs
chili powder, 3 tbs
thyme, 1 tbs
sweet basil, 1 tbs

Creole seasoning tends to be sweet-mild, and saucy (usually with tomatoes). think gumbo

Cajun is definitely spicier, with more textures, and less saucy. think red beans and rice

They are the same. I have read about the small differences but as a chef in cujun resturant for 5 years I would not worry about it. Chef John
