My female 1yr. old whippet has had vomiting and diahrea all day with no appetite, but will drink water. Her nose isn't warm, if that means anything. She's been fairly lathargic and just lays on the couch. She is normally eager to play when I get home from work, but not today. To my knowledge she hasn't consumed anything toxic.
She's up on all her shots and has been very healthy and active thus far.

Dogs do get what we humans would call "the common cold", in doggy terms it's called Distemper - but this is not distemper! I would say that since her shots are all up to date, she probably ingested something that she shouldn't have. Right now it is important to keep her hydrated, even if she is drinking water - she needs electrolytes! Pedialyte, regular plain flavor, is highly recommended. It is a liquid and it is full of electrolytes and other things that will be good for her. Kaopectate would also be very good, this should help to stop the vomiting and diarhea. I would, however, take her to the vet immediately if the symptoms do not go away or diminish by tomorrow or if you notice any blood in her stool or vomit! If this behavior continues or if you see blood, your dog could have a very serious doggy disease that is very very very bad! But, since her shots are all up to date, that seems very unlikely. She has probably ingested something - just keep an eye on her.

She definantly has gastroenteritis. This can be taken care of with some pepto bismol. You can give a small dose (1tsp) ev ery three hours for three treatments. Do not feed food or water during this time. Introduce food & water after that, but only feed a bland diet of boiled chicken breast & boiled white rice. Along with water give a small amount every hour. This should take care of any stomach problems. Then wean back onto her normal food in a couple days.

Vets are there to help and assist, you should call his/her vet tomorrow and explain the symptoms to the receptionists. they can schedule you in and your vet will know exactly what to look for so you can get in and out and your little one can feel better. i have listed a web sight below that further explains the severity of getting your whippet checked out. and so you can educate yourself before a vets visit. Don't panic but do go and get a check up asap. good luck and hope all goes well.

Vomiting and diarrhea is a vet call! I'd get her there first thing in the morning. Since you don't know for sure whether or not she ingested something toxic you had better be on the safe side and get her to the vet asap. If it keeps up tonight, I'd go now.

They don't get flu bugs as we know them, so something is wrong here.

Yes inside pets can get just about anything humans have like allergies, cold, flu, even bronchitis. My mother-in-law smoked in her basement with the dog in the same room and it got bronchitis they said it was from her smoking. I know it sounds wierd but its true. But with your dog I agree I would at least call the vet. It don't cost anything to call.

You know, I would think so 'cause I once had
a boston bull pup and he kept a cold almost all
the time. The vet told me that the gas heat was
most likely giving him a cold. I had to send him
back where he came from.

Yes dogs can get virus's. The most common is like what you are describing. Call your vet because she may need to have IV fluids and meds to help her to stop the vomiting.

Dogs can get flu-like symptoms. The best thing to do is to wait until tomorrow and see if they have gotten worse. I would also consult your vet for instructions. If she has been up to date with shots it will most likely not be threatening. Just make her fatigued. So, consult your vet and he'll tell you what to do.
