As you are most likely talking about Jehovah's Witnesses, it is true that we believe people have the right and freedom to choose their religion, we do not force our beliefs on you even though we come to your door. We do give people the opportunity to study the bible, free of charge, our meetings are free of charge as well. We do not pass a collection plate and we do not get paid for what we do. In fact, we come to your door at our own expense because we feel the message we have is worth it, as are you. If you are not interested, be polite and we will be on our way. But in regards to your question, why do we come to your door --- the reason is scriptural (quoting from King James):
Matthew 10:5 --- These twelve Jesus sent forth, (verse7) -- as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is near.
Matthew 28:19 --- Go ye therefore, and teach all the nations
Luke 10:1 --- Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two by two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
Jesus himself set the precedent, sending others to preach as he did also. We do believe you have the right to choose, but we are also just following the example Jesus set for his followers.

Because religion in silly. I know it, you know it, the people who knock on your door know it.
But by converting others, the numbers grow; and this creates the illusion of validation. The more people believe something, the more credible it seems to become.
It's because even though people KNOW that religion is a fantasy, they still outwardly express belief in the hopes that someone will agree with them.
Also, the more people the get to convert, the more money comes into their church. If god is all powerful, why does he need your money? Religion is a business based on fear. People are afraid of the alternative, so they cling to a fairy-tale.
Why do you think your beliefs are more credible than theirs?
Simple, brainwashing. Everybody elses religion is wrong, except your own.
Me being an atheist, you and I agree on every one of the hundreds of religions in the world, but one.

Usually those people are mostly belonging, though not limited to, Jehovah's Witnesses or some other christian denomination.
It is due to the same mistranslation of a verse in the Bible that caused the crusades.
'and the lord said unto his servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.' - Bible, Luke 14:23
but in my faith, it states...
'There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the right path has been made (distinctly) clear from the wrong path...' - The Grand Recitation 2:256
Good question...
Knowledge is Power; Power is Freedom; Freedom is Peace...
So may Peace be upon you...

Are you saying that there is many big groups doing this or are they comming very often? But since you say that you already have yourReligion and know where you stand, then you know that the Bible actually says that you have the responsibility to go and talk to people and tell them about God's kingdom and what it will do for mankind(Mathew24:14)are you doing this? Notice that it does not say there that they would be converting people and then the end would come, this scripture actually says that this preaching work would be done for a witness to all the nations and then the end will come, so that means that God is sending them to you to witness to you, which means, if you say that you know where you stand, that you know that you will not when the end comes have any excuse that you didn't know since you are now saying that you know where you stand, then the question is, are you standing in the right side?Maybe not since God is sending his people to you, but no no-one can change or convert anyone else, that is impossible since one has trouble making changes that one may want to change let alone change someone else. But the reason that God does send his people to peoples doors is because there is now being a work done by God's angels which are along with God's people working to note what side people are on. or which road they are takking , mind you there are only two sides and two roads that you can go on. To illustrate: (Matthew 7:13,14). explains Even though, A lot of people believe thatALL RELIGIONS are good, and they say;"These are simply different roads leading to the same place" If this were true, your religion or ways would not matter, for it would mean that all religions are acceptable to God no matter what. But are they?Jesus Christ did not teach that All religions are simply roads that lead to the same place of salvation In his famous sermon on the mount He said,"Go in through the narrow gate; because broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and many are the ones going in through it.whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it."(Matthew7:13,14)
So Jesus did not say that everybody was right or finding salvation but that most people are on the wrong roadwhich is the one leading to destruction and that there are only two roads one leading to destruction wide and spacious meaning virtually anything goes on that road and the other leading to life is narrow and cramped and few people are on that road because it is not an easy ropad but it takes effort to follow itSo because the people traveling on the wide and spacious road choose their own ways and the wide easy road saying and believing that all religion is simply a different way to God they fail to worship God in the right way, most people are on the broad and spacious road that really leads away from God and into destruction Ye it is possible to be right and there are people who are on the right road and are right but they are a small minority of people who have found the right road and will receive salvation. this is the reason they bring you the good news of the kingdom the good news that you can receive to be ble to share in the things and blessings that this kingdom will bring!but as you say you do have the free will to accept and learn about the kingdom good news, or not to, you certainly have the right to simply say you are not interested and therefore not talk about it or tolisten to these people, but do make sure that you truly do know where you stand as you say you do, the reason I say this is in(2Thessalonians1:8) I do hope that you do know, where you truly stand as you say that you do, if you really are wrong, then you will have no exuse for being wrong, because you refuse to listen or learn the truth! So be careful what you choose to do.I know what side I am on, Do you? I mean do you really?Have you checked it out well? To make sure that what you are choosing to believe is right. It would be sad, not to have done so, only, to find out, that, you may have been cutting off your nose despite your face. What you are saying is serious and so is what I am saying. Please think about it. For your own good Look at what these people are saying check it out then make an informed decision!

In my opinion= I believe god is a spirit within ones self and when you believe in god your actually believeing in yourself. As far as the bible is concern, its just a book taken from the first book written in England several hundred years ago and each time you read it you get a different meaning from it. Sooo when anyone comes to your home preaching the bible just tell them. You have your own beliefs and your not interested in their beliefs, but have a nice day.

They are just trying to recrute new people. They belive that there religion is beter so they are doing you a favor by converting you. Christians do this to me alot. But i'm quite happy with my belifs. Everyone should stick with what they belive in. Don't let anyone presure you to change your religion.

its part of their religion to be good disciples and try to convert more people. it does annoy me, i just try to remember that they are doing what they believe in God's work. I am usually very polite and quickly say " no thank u, i am not interested and am a proud Baptist" than i quickly shut the door before they can respond.

Any religion that can respect someone else's religion is good in my book, no need to push it on anybody. best thing to do is close your blinds and turn off the lights when they come up to your door.
