Go to a nursing home on your time off, to just say hi, read to the elders who may not be able to see to read well, or may not know how to read.

Ask all your school mates and teachers to bring an item of food to take to a pantry for the homeless.

Make Easter eggs for poor and homeless children.

Contact the school conselor to volunteer to be a mentor to a child who needs help with her homework, a good role model.

Volunteer with a pre-K program to help the teachers as a para-pro.

Volunteer to take books to a trailer court or projects on a weekend, opening up the back of a van or pickup, like a sort of a book-mobile. You could also visit a factory during the lunch hour, to give away books and magazines to read.

Write letters to prisoners. Don't give clues as to your physical address.

Visit the prisoners on Sunday or Saturday. Call the jail or prison for visiting hours. You could visit a women's prison or a juvenile detention centre. Go with an adult who can give you protection and support.

Well our church is currently doing charity things out in our community, we pick one thing a month and go out and do it like this saturday one group is going out to the laundry mats and doing laundry for people and also helping people out that doesn't have money taking rolls of quarters and putting them in to help people out so they can save their money. Last month we made gift baskets of things like snacks and magazines and took to the waiting rooms at the hospital, plus you get to witness to people like this in the process. Good luck hope you can think of some fun things to do in your community with these ideas. Another thing is that you may actually get more youth involved in some of these activities, some of these things are as fun for the youth as it is for the adults.

Why don't you talk to your minister or pastor? They probably have a ton of stuff to suggest. Raising money doing what? You don't think you can expand on that or do something different to bring in funds?

People are where it is at. Feeding them, clothing them, helping them get jobs, getting cars donated to give to low income parents that don't have the ability to get a car...so they can drive to work, the doctor's, etc. Although, that is extremely complex (registrations, insurance, driving safety courses, titles, etc--WHEELS TO WORK<--example)

What I did for my church was going to an retirement home and visit the people who's family's don't come and see them in the home, or you could got to a shelter and see all the little kids who do not have parents or shelter.

How about volunteering at a nursing home or something like that? Charity is just as much about giving of yourself as it is about giving money.

Help clean an elderly lady's home. She will love you for it.
Try to choose one who is in ill-health or very old and living alone.
I'd try a neighbor. Maybe you and a friend or two could get it all done in a day.

if you are musically inclined, you could go play your instruemtn or sing at a nursing home. my H.S. orchestra did this every year, adn the residents really enjoyed it! or you could volunteer to read to them. if you want a change, you could cut your hair and doante it to Locks of Love, which makes wigs for children who lost their hair to cancer. you have to have at least 10 inches to give them, but it is incredibly gratifying, knowing you're making some little girl very happy!

You could say a rosary for someone particular, or start a prayer chain. A prayer chain would be a group of people that call eachother and ask them to pray for a specific person.
