The Biblia Sacra Vulgata originated about the year 382 A.D. Pope Damasus commissioned St Jerome to translate the original Greek and Hebrew texts into Latin.

Pope Damasus I in 382 asked Saint Jerome to create this translation. It is a revision of the Old Latin version of the Gospels from the Greek. His version of the Pslams was based on Hexaplar Greek text and later, with many of his other Old Testament books, on the Hebrew texts.
