You know, if you're such a smart aleck, why don't you at least read where that quote comes from.
It doesn't say anywhere that money is the root of evil. It says that the LOVE of money is the root of all evil.
Get it right will ya?
Churches need to pay mortgages and rent and they pay their staff salaries. They also send money to different missions and organizations that help people.
Unfortunatelly there are churches that misuse their funds, but there are plenty of good churches that do not waste money and are way more efficient in their operations than big fat charities like the United Way whose CEOs (or director or whatever) make milions of $s.

There is nothing in the statement that money is the root of all evil that says it is not needed. Churches need it to do more good for the poor and downtrodden. Root of all evil does not mean that money itself is evil. It is inferred that when evil acts are committed, money is the root cause. A good analogy is if Bob shoots and kills Joe, who or what did the killing, Bob or the gun?
Since money and guns are inanimate objects, it stands to reason that whoever controls them are the ones committing the evil or they both can be used for good if the one controlling them so desires.

My church needs and it DOES beg for it, because there aren't many people attending it and we need to pay the electric bill, water bill, heating bill, etc. People in our church complain when the simplest of comforts are not available, but they don't want to help pay for those comforts. We are not grubbing for money, just trying to keep the church open.
It's not a good time of year to not have heat, heat makes it comfy in the House of God, and keeps the pipes from bursting. we need electricity so we can see, and we need water so we can flush the toilets and wash our hands.
My church has no problem with saying we are struggling right now financially, but that IS part of it when you choose a small church family over a large one, lol!
I also don't remember it being said that money is the root of all evil in the Bible. God blesses people financially every day, and did in the Old testament and new testament days. He doesn't want us to be poor. We just over spend cause we like to spend money on things we can't afford! :0)

Money isn't the root of all evil. The LACK of money is the root of all evil. Any church that begs for or demands money doesn't need to be in operation. That's just money grubbing in God's name. That's a no no.

we need money to servive. and money is not the root of evil. it is the love for money. there is a differance for having money to take care of your needs or having money and buying those things you want and dont need. some people want money and do anything for money. and others want money just so they can go out and by the newest game out there or system. that is were the evil of money comes into play. not money itself. if you live for God he will provide our needs and sometimes even more. you dont need to go out to a restaurant but God will provide extra so you can enjoy a night with your spouse or whoever. money become evil when you want it to buy your wants. and you start to do anything just to get money.

Even churches are required to pay for land, utilities and other such expenses. Furthermore, often many times churches will try to provide public services or community projects to better the community or less fortunate. To operate in the world, money is required.

there is'nt anything really wrong with giving your hard earned dough over to a church if they offer you services that are ecclestacial. If you have recieved some benefit from their service then I implore you to give a little. churchs are very expensive down to the bills, the taxes, the staff etc
