Local shelters help you match up the right kind of dog that will get along with your dog. They have you bring your dog to the shelter, and help you pick out the right dog in size, energy level and temperament and see how they get along and play together.

With a Boxer?
You really should consider a breed almost as big, as big, or bigger. Many times, Boxers do not get along well with smaller breeds because they think of them as prey or a play toy. If you can help it, stay way from smaller breeds. For your new dog's sake.
Try looking around this place, at different breeds and what not: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/ It should help you find a suitable breed.
Another option would be another Boxer! The more the merrier! But one warning if you're considering this: If your current pup is female, get a male. Do not get another female. Ironcially, in this breed, fights happen more often between two females. And tend to be more violent and bitter.

There are so many breeds to choose from. You might want to do some research on them before you choose. Some breeds just arn't good with other dogs. You will want to choose one that has some energy to keep up with your boxer. Most terriers do have tons of energy, I have a Jack Russell, so I know that for a fact.
By the way, most of the small dogs I've ever known were pretty tough dogs, at least they thought so! They can definitly hold their own when playing with a bigger dog. They will probably end up running the house while they are at it.
Hope that helped some!

We have a Jack Russell Terrier/ Border Collie mix and he is just that kind of dog. Small, about half the size of a border collie, but still looks like a terrier. He thinks he's a big dog and can hold his own. Look for similar breed combos at your local adoption center. Mixed breeds make great pets and are often the best of several puppy worlds!! Good luck!!

Wow there are many! Kudos for having two. Okay since the pup you have is still young you are in luck. it makes it ten times easier to find a compatible partner. If you have a shelter near you or a rescue you can always take your pup to go visit with other dogs and see if he/she has any biases or mabye you'll find the right pup there! If you are looking for a pure bred and don't want to go to a rescue you can try looking on these sights and they will help you find out all about different breeds and match one to your criteria.

in line with danger evaluate adopting an older dogs particularly than a puppy from a look after or rescue? they're going to be the size they are going to be for all times as long as they're a pair of 12 months previous. there is a few relatively marvelous and loving pets accessible waiting to be accompanied!

Why not some terrier or terrier cross? Or, a jack russel terrier...they are full of energy and will keep you and your boxer entertained for hours! Both of these breeds are good natured and smart, great qualities to have in any pet!
Boxers are wonderful and that you are getting him a playmate is a good deal!

I have a Boston terrier, and he loves big dogs. If you like the look of a boxer, you would love a Boston. we often get asked if he is a small boxer breed. He is full of energy, and very sweet like a boxer. You must have time to give him.

I have a 2 yr old Chihuahua. My neighbor, who shares the same yard, has a young boxer mix. They love to play with each other. It is adorable to watch. Sometimes the boxer is a little rough because the chihuahua is so small....

Go to www.petfinder.com and find dogs available for adoption at shelters in your area. Just put in your zip code and what you are looking for ( breed, sex, age, size ). You will get pics of lots of dogs in your area and they usually tell you a little something about him/her as well. A GREAT site .
