my hubby and I were walking in our door when we heard a moaning meow. we looked and saw a HUGE cat laying behind our bushes. we think it's pregnant, but we don't know. we're not even sure if it's a female! It has no balls, but we're not sure if it's been neutered. We did find out that it was a old neighbors a couple doors down that moved, and left the cat, but that's all we have to go on.we think we feel lumps down there, and we put her/him in our garage in a box and it doesn't move. it just sits there and meows like it's uncomfortable. can anyone help! how can we tell if it's a girl/boy? and how can we tell if it's pregnant? my hubby thinks he feels nipples, but isn't sure. it has a lot of fur. thanks!

we did give her/him a blanket in the box. my hubby is also going to get food and a thermometer, since we read the temp drops if about to give birth. right now we're not sure what we're going to do with the cat.if the temp has dropped and hasn't given birth within 24 hours(what i read is normal for a cat in labor) then we'll take it to the vet, if not we'll care for it until it gives birth(if pregnant), and let her care for her babies for a long while, and then try to find homes for them, or give them to a no kill animal shelter. we're looking into options since we have never been in this situation so it kind of threw us off guard! i'm very scared to take it to a shelter because i don't want it killed. we'll probably try to find a no kill animal shelter, though we do not have one in our town. it does not seem to have any injuries that we can see. no blood, and it can walk fine.

we just took it's temp, it's 98.4 so i'm assuming it's a girl and in labor!

Wow. Well, you're doing a good job! Snaps for taking the cat in! Ok, two things could be happening. If it's a boy it might have a tumor in it's stomach, and if it's a girl it might be pregnant. All cat's have nipples but a good way to tell is to lift up it's tail and look at it's bottom. If it looks like an upside down exclaimation point it's a girl, if it looks like a colon it's a boy.
It sounds like the cat is pregnant. Good job for sending your husband out for food and a thermonater. I would call the vet's office and ask for help. If the cat does give birth be very careful. It could bite. The kittens will be in sacs which you might have to split off. Try to move any kittens out of the way from getting squished by it's mother, and help the kittens find a nipple. But call the vet. They can give you good advice.
A good way to find homes is to advertise in the newspaper. You will find many good families to take in a cat if it's for free. Try not to put a price on it. Many families want a cat but can't pay the 100 or so dollars many people are asking for.
Good luck! I hope it turns out alright!

Taking it to a vet could be a good idea, although f that's too expensive and you don't want to keep the cat then I suggest dropping it off t an animal shelter. If you would like to keep the cat and are able to then a trip to the vet is probably a good idea, but if you can't do that right now then even calling one and asking fr advice might be helpful.

A neutered male cat is still noticible different from a femal one, so if you're pretty sure it's a girl then it probably is.

If you live in a cold place and it's warm in your garage, then the cat probably hasn't moved out of the box just because she doesn't want to end up outside. She may also be hurt or sick however, which is why a trip to the vet or at least some advice from one is probably not a bad idea.

If you haven't given her any food or water yet, that would probably be very helpful and she (hopefully) might calm down a bit. A can of tuna or any type of meat will probably work just fine.

As far as I know, the teats of a very pregnant cat are very easy to feel, even through fur, so I'm guessing that she's not pregnant, but I may not have full information on that. I've only met one pregnant cat and she was short-furred, but you could definitely see the nipples.

It sounds like this cat is actually quite tame. Do you have ny idea how long she's been on her own?

Bless you and your hubby for helping the cat. The neighbors that just left it should have to live out on the streets and forage for food, water and shelter like the cat had to. Anyway, my advice would be for now try temping it with maybe a can of tuna or a hotdog or some lunch meat cut up into small pieces, if it does eat do not give it too much and gorge it. I would put a blanket in the box if you havent already that way just in case "it" is a "she" than her babies will have something soft to come out on if she is pregnant and in labor. Make sure it as an old blanket that you really do not care about bc if she does have kitties on it, it will have afterbirth, etc on it. If you do not have a blanket like that, anything soft would be better than nothing (old towel, pillow,etc.). I know it is asking a lot, but I would take it to the vet tomorrow. If you dont want to do that and do not want to keep it, please try to find a home for it or contact a cat sanctuary or no kill shelter if there is one in your area. One option would be after its vet visit , caring for it yourself and finding it a home through flyers, ads in the paper and on the internet, word or mouth, etc. Our family does foster work with rescue animals and it is VERY rewarding to find an adandoned animal a home. Many rescue orgs could give you info about fostering. Also, when you felt around on it, did it have any sores/puncrure wounds, if so it might be internally injured. WIshing you guys and the cat the best of luck.

You should be able to tell if that cat is a female by the nipples. The nipples when they are pregnant are rough feeling, and bigger than a male cats nipples would be (which are small). If the cat keeps laying there and meowing it could be a sign that the cat may be going in labor soon. Make sure the cat has a comfortable blanket to lay on in that box so it will be more comfortable, and if the cat is pregnant then the babies have something soft to lay on.

Sounds pregnant and maybe in labor. She should have nipples and a milk at this point - look again and feel for it. I'd get her to the vet it she seems distressed. There are some rescue organizations that your vet will know about who can take her off your hands. Unless you want a mama and babies! If you do, please get her fixed as soon as the vet tells you it's ok to do so after the kittens are born.

if it's in labor, it won't want to eat. if it's got a huge belly, chances are it's ready to have babies. you can take it to an e clinic, but they want money up front. if you call animal control, they may very well put her and the babies down.
you can call an e clinic and ask for advice, hopefully they will give it. otherwise i would wait till tomorrow and go to a regular vet, if she hasn't had some babies already and get the help from them. most times this happens naturally and you won't have to do anything but give her a good spot to have the babies.
cats don't get nipply like dogs do before birth

You need to take the cat to the vet. It sounds like it's in labor & for nothing to have progressed this far into it, the kittens & the cat could be in danger. Even if it's not pregnant, something is obviously wrong with the kitty.

Either call an emergency vet clinic and ask for advice, or take the cat there. It may be sick or hurt and suffering. I can't stand the thought of a suffereing animal. Will it eat? Try giving it something tasty to see if it will eat something. And some water, too!

to tell if it is a boy or girl you will have to have one of you hold it (tight) and the other put one finger on each side of it private and with a boy if you push gently down his penis with show. if it is a girl you will see a slit and can gently pull it open and that will confirm the sex. if it is a girl then try moving the hair on the belly and seeing if the teats are enlarged then try gently squeezing on the belly to see if you can fell anything if she is due soon you will be able to feel the babies move by placing your hand on her belly. if it is a boy and is in pain like that and big then it most likely has a blocked urethra and can't pee and needs to be seen asap.so that they can make him go pee.hope this helps and good luck.
