I rescued a cat from a hoarder so this kitty has never had to use a litter box, he and 30 other cats used any suface. I have him in a very large cage and he just lays in his litter box, even after he's gone to the bathroom in it. Also, his cage is lined with potty pads and no bedding. As soon as I put any bedding in his cage, he uses that to go to the bathroom. He doesn't have any medical issues. Any ideas? Otherwise, he's a very sweet and playful cat. I'm hoping to get him to break this habit so I can get him adopted.

Many times cats will lay in their littler box when they are feeling nervous or unsure. It seems like he's fairly new to your family, and definitely new to being a solo cat, so this could explain his nervousness. See if that's something he stops doing once he kind of calms down and gets used to his new surroundings.

Also, there's a special litter called Cat Attract that may help him to go inthe box instead of on his bedding. It's treated with a special attractant so that the cat will be drawn to it when it comes time to relieve himself. You can get it at PetSmart and probably Petco as well. Some people I know with problematic cats swear by the stuff.

Good luck.

I'd take out all the bedding and pads and put newspaper down and the litter box. I'd also get him a enclosed shelter to lay in, like a small box with an opening in it. Perhaps he wants to curl into something to feel safe and warm.

that's your cats way of telling you something. Now the question is what. have you ever latterly replaced some time table? Are you long gone extra?I had a cat that did the comparable element . once I decrease back to artwork after an prolonged leave of absence the cat might bypass suitable beside the container! I swear she become asserting "i could bypass in the container yet i desire you to comprehend which you're long gone too lots" attempt getting her her very own container. In a distinctive place. possibly as she a while she does not desire to share. you do no longer say if the two cat is fastened. If the male isn't, his urine is turning out to be lots better ( meaning stinky, stinky, stinky) Your male is often getting extra aggresive in the direction of her. attempt this. Get a clutter container for each kitty. provide the female the hot one without smell. save them in seperate rooms (make confident woman is familiar with the place her new container is) positioned her in it and carry her paw to softly scratch at it. She'll get the belief. bypass to artwork and see if once you retuen the clutter become used. I strongly urge you to get the two kitties fastened. they are going to be extra healthy and happier.solid success.

Well.....it doesn't sound nice but you could try taking his bedding out. Then he would probably choose the litter box. Maybe once he uses the litter box, he won't want to sleep there anymore and you can give him his bedding back.

Everytime he uses bedding to use the bathroom on ,pick him up and show it to him and then set him in his litterbox. After a few times he will get the idea!
