Personal hygiene is best performed away from the public.

I've personally never cleaned my ears in public. I try not to clean my nose in public, only if I just had a big sneeze and have to wipe it several times. Seeing someone digging in their nose and seeing snot is gross. Cleaning ears with Q-tips is simple and no one sees the small amount of wax.
My own personal thought.

Using a Q-tip to clean out your nose or ear I'd never do either in public. I can't stand people who blow there nose in public. Good god go to the bathroom or just pee in the trash can while your at it.

It isn't where I'm from, picking your nose or using a q-tip isn't acceptable, blowing your nose in a (paper or cloth) handkerchief is. Because you can't help a runny nose and having it drip out is even less acceptable, while your ears don't ever need cleaning right then and there.

Redrump, aside from your questionable manners in public places...don't use Q-tips to clean your ears...
you are actually pushing ear wax back and compacting it around your ear drum (and then, you may not realize it but, your hearing might only be at 50-75% of what it could be).
Get one of those bulb type syringes you get in an ear cleaning kit at the drug store, fill a basin up with some warm water,and (in the privacy of your own bathroom) turn your ear down facing the water, and just flush out each ear with the syringe...
it's amazing just what you might find in there.

Quick tip: there is nothing on your body it is ok to clean in public. The only quasi-acceptable one MIGHT be your nails, but even then it's still pretty gauche. And as for you nose? Seriously. Stay the hell away from that.

I don't know anyone who cleans their nose with a Q-tip .. they usually just blow their nose or roll a tissue up to get rid of all the junk .

I don't find that anymore acceptable use the restroom for that it's disgusting to have to watch someone do that especially if they are picking their ear with their finger

i don't know where you live, but in our end of the world neither are acceptable. personal hygiene is to be carried out in privacy. to do so in public shows how ignorant one is.
