Licensure
In the state of Ohio, Massotherapy is considered a limited branch of medicine and is regulated by the State Medical Board of Ohio. The Massotherapy degree and post-degree program at Cuyahoga Community College is approved by the medical board. Therefore, graduates of the Massotherapy Program are eligible to sit for the State Medical Board of Ohio licensure examination.

The Medical Board exam is offered in June and December each year and held in Columbus, Ohio. Graduates who pass the Medical Board exam are licensed massotherapists in the state of Ohio and may use the abbreviation L.M.T. after their names.

Graduates of the Massotherapy Program at Cuyahoga Community College (especially those who are moving or planning to move out of Ohio) are also eligible for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) examination. Other states that regulate massage utilize and recognize the NCBTMB examinations for licensure. For states that do not regulate massage, large cities and counties often utilize NCBTMB exam in their local ordinance. For a full listing of states and local entities utilizing the NCBTMB exam, please visit their website which can be found in Professional Links section of the Massotherapy website.
