I have found some items on E-Bay that interest me. I am wondering if I can just use a credit card, and how it works. Because I have heard of some problems with Pay Pal so my preference would be not to use it. Is it Murphy's Law, "If it can go wrong, it will go wrong, so I wanted to be careful.

Would be very grateful for advice on this matter.

Most sellers on ebay use Paypal. So it is advantageous if you have a Paypal account as well.

However since you prefer not to use Paypal, you need to check the accepted payment modalities of the seller. Check what types of payment they accept -- some accept cash, some accept money order, while those that are more established and have their own merchant account can accept credit card payments without going through Paypal

The disadvantage of cash and money order is if the transaction goes bad, you will not be able to easily recover your payment. Not many sellers accept credit card not through ebay so your buying options may be limited

If the accepted payments are not listed or you need to get clarification on what types of payments being accepted, be sure to contact the seller BEFORE you bid on the item

Look for sellers who accept money orders. I think to sign up for Ebay, you need a credit card on file. I can't remember....I signed up about 5 years ago. Go to the site and go through the steps. It'll tell you what you need. If you ever want to sell, though, you're going to get more bids if you accept paypal. A lot of buyers will only pay by paypal, myself included, because it's actually the easiest and safest way to pay.

Somehow inside your head credit card numbers traveling over the Internet are safer than just your email address.

It seems you smoke without a seatbelt while talking over the cell phone and driving too and you find that a lot safer than say pull over to make a phone call and light a cigarrette.

Well you don't "need" anything to sign up. Some people who sell also accept money orders.
