People aren't, and it was just men like you or me who wrote/translated it, so who cares if it's got a few facts wrong (like where it says a certain seed is the smallest seed in the world but it really isn't)? It's still a great moral guide in general.. The commandments set the moral code for civilized society.

It really does not matter.
The world would move in its own pace.
Its not the fact that non-Christians do not live well !
We need to have faith - but not blind faith.

I believe in GOD, whether its a Christian god or Muslim Allah or Hindu Bhagaban - does not really matter. In whichever language you call water always remain water.

Realize this....

the Bible has no errors on Gods part. look at the context each "error" is used in....

1) you say a mustard seed isn't the smallest seed. if not, consider this: would it not have logically been the smallest seed in the area?

2) people keep blathering on about Leviticus' animal miscategorizations. honestly, if they were told it was "unclean" (unholy) do your really think they would spend a lot of time examining its characteristics, such as a bat being a mammal (like 2 wings + 2 legs + flies = bird is a pretty common mistake)
or the four legged insects (it crawls, all fours....)

3) people claim it contradicts itself. Honestly! that's cuz you're reading it in English or a much more limitted language! there are several different words for the different kinds of love in Greek, but only about 3 for all in English. same goes for "hate".

4) if you see Scripture that contradicts Scripture, you're reading it wrong. Like if it says you are a slave, but free. Look at the contexts and historical significants. a slave was a person who went out to work (on their own will) but were owned as property. So logically, a free slave would be someone who has free will but is expected to do what is right, according to God, their owner.

and yes, the Bible is the best moral code

God is perfect and that is what matters and He Loves us, which matters so much too.
God is the Author and prophets and apostles were the writers of His Word as given by Divine Inspiration to His writers.
It is quite possible that the mustard seed at that time was the smallest seed that they used in that region. It may also be possible that of all the seeds of trees, that particular seed that grew into a tree was the smallest seed.

Jesus would not lie because he represented the Father Who can not tell a lie.

The Bible is not a historiacal book. It is a book from antiquity that contains documentation that is quite accurate. It is more accurate than the Egyptian, Mesopotamian or Greek historians, which have similar ethics as you have sited. The Bible can be used just as other works are for archeological value. Psalm 11:3 and Psalm 2..

The first few chapters of Genesis gathers biology, geology, astronomy and geology with the other environmental sciences and includes a genre for every type of literature. Those that do not see it this way, are indeed missing out on a journey of exploration

the bible not being perfect has everything to do with life. Christians live their lives based on the bible. American rights are based off of Christianity. Basically, people follow the bible, word for word, in order to live their life and set rules for everyone else. Many people know that there are some things in the bible that are not true, but no one wants to change it because "it's the word of god" or whatever. For example, "gays are an abomination." I know for a fact that everything the bible says about gays is a bunch of bullsh*t. But because the bible says it's wrong, we're not allowed to marry. the bible is taking over everyone's lives, even those who don't believe in it. the only way to keep what's right and change what's wrong (passages in the bible) is for the churches to realize this and educate the community during mass.

If a bible is the word of god, and there are factual errors (no matter how small), then god either lied or made a mistake, neither of which is possible according to christian belief.

Something can be a good moral guide without having an entire religion based on it.

It does not matter.

The Scriptures are said to be God-breathed, i.e., inspired. Second Timothy 3:16 says, "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness." The word "inspired" is 'theopneustos', God-breathed. This means that Scripture comes from God. Jesus said in Luke 24:44-45, "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." 45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures."

Because most people really believe that it IS perfect and unable of being wrong, and that is a problem, the biggest problem in society I think. The commandments were just exclusive to christians. There were other people and cultures around before christianity came along.

Because an entire religion is based on it, people of that religion making up 1/3 of the world.

Bible means book. Correct, men have written it, and in every human endeavor, there's bound to be failure, but since nowadays it is lovingly referred to by christians and catholics as the Word of God, then to imply that the bible is imperfect is to imply that God's Word is imperfect.

To imply that God's Word is imperfect is to imply that God is imperfect, which really wouldn't make Him God.

For example, if I falter while I give a speech, then one would assume that the one speaking, me, is imperfect because I made a mistake.

In order to be perfect, you are incapable of making a mistake.

Good question.

So may Peace be upon you...

If any one section of a book is wrong, then couldn't the entire thing be wrong? If it was the word of God, dont you think that god would know enough to get it all right? If it was the word of just regular men, then why can't we choose to dismiss it like any other book?
