you have 31 sets of spinal nerves that extend out of your spinal cord and branch of to other parts of your body, the positions you sleep in may be causing compression or your muscles can be tight causing another mode of compression or your spine may be curved inapropriately causing this problem. this is probably coming from your lower cervical spine area and/or upper thoracic

Any compression to the nerve or blood supply to the nerve. It can happen anywhere along the nerves that supply your hands all the way up to your brain.

Most likely it is coming from the shoulder down but it is impossible to say for sure.

Go to a Dr and get checked out.

Then, when all is ok, go to a massage therapist trained in neuromuscular therapy. They can help you identify the perpetuating factors and relax potential muscles that may be causing the nerve compression.

It could also just be from sleeping in the wrong positions. This can be a result of pains that you don't really notice. Massage will help with that, too. The therapist can help you find better sleeping positions or bolstering options.

Good luck.

Muscles can have knots (trigger points) that make them tight which in turn put pressure on nerves and other things causing pain.
Molasses - a couple of swigs or Bananas 1 or 2 - both contain magnesium and potassium for muscles.
Try working with the principles taught in The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
I use a chiropractor and massage therapist with it

You don’t have to get worried about it. It could be because there is not enough blood circulation due to perhaps disuse atrophy or perhaps due to the fact that part of your body was at rest for two or three hours. You can find good home remedies for this. I did find some at http://ailments.in/peripheralneuropathy.html

Maybe you're sleeping on your ulner nerve, OR...it's because when you sleep, your tissues retain water. It makes your hands feel swollen and sluggish...which you could interpret as numbness I suppose.
