I want to take 10 grams of b5 a day to get rid of acne. A lot of people have said it worked for them and I haven't seen that many side effects. Other than diherrea and bad hair days. Is there any thing else I need to know? Did it work for you. Also I plan on taking Vitamin B complex as well. Most of the websites said you should use it as a base. Also you're supposed to ease into it right. I got that too but seriously is there anything else that I need to know about. Serious answers and I'd like it better if you had tried it or were a doctor or something. Thanks in advance.

Well the good thing about the B vitamins is that they are water soluble so you just pee the excess out. Many people tolerate megadoses of the B vitamins very easilly. I myself took a B-50 complex several times a day for years and years.(should still but slackin' off).

Anyway, good luck with it. Some info here for you:

Hi Devan. Here is a direct quote on the potential toxicity of B5 from a major, current medical textbook: "Pantothenate toxicity has not been reported to date in humans. Intakes of about 10 g pantothenate as calcium pantothenate daily for up to 6 weeks have resulted in no problems. However, intakes of up to 20 g have been associated with mild intestinal distress and diarrhea, and lower intakes of 100 mg may increase niacin excretion."

long term effects can include serious homeostasic dependancy and excessive withdrawl periods, however, if you only plan on taking them for a short time you should be fine. B vitamins are water soluble and will be released in urine. you should research urinary tract effects first. always stop taking the vit if you have discomfort urinating and see a doctor.

With a bit of research I did find that it was recommended for acne. I did not see any side effects . People taking niacin as a super supplement have developed fevers and other things.
