It's pure ignorance and unwillingness to listen to the FACTS.

I have yet to see a APBT hater give facts. I have yet to see them line up facts about APBT bites and other breed bites. They are so quick to throw out bite statistics for a pit bull - but no source. To me (knowing what I know and knowing the facts) it's all made up in their heads.

To those of you who have little to no educated on the APBT breed. Let me teach you something. Temperament tests DO NOT LIE. In a recent study, where 122 breeds were tested, done by the American Temperament Testing Society, Pit Bulls achieved a passing rate of 83.9%. Beagles passing rate is 78.2% and your lovely family dog, the Golden Retriever was still below the Pit Bull at 83.2%. Can't argue with facts, can you? Don't believe me. I post my source. Where are your sources? Need some more schooling? The Pit Bull (APBT) was bred for DOG aggression, not HUMAN aggression. The attacks on humans are the fault of irresponsible owners. The fact of the matter is in the past 20 years we have seen some sad examples of poorly bred and badly treated dogs that are byproducts of irresponsible breeders and cruel and abusive homes. These improperly raised and poorley socialized creatures can show temperments far removed from that of the authentic Pit Bull. Do not believe that all dogs attack? They do. Any dog can attack and they will. This misconseption that some of you have can be dangerous and even deadly. Did you know that a child in the United States is over 100 times more likely to be killed by his or her parent or caretaker than by a dog? Even more surprising is that approximately 50 infants die each year from broken baby cribs, and 250 newborns die at the hands of their parents or guardians. In comparison, two infants, on average, die a year from dog attacks. Pit bull and pit mixes account for 21 percent of all human fatalities, while mixed breed dogs account for 16 percent and other nonspecified breeds, 15 percent. So many things factor into dog attacks. NOT JUST THE BREED. Factors include inherited and learned behaviors, genetics, breeding, temperament, surgical sterilization, environmental stresses, owner responsibility, victim behavior, size and age, timing, and the physical condition and the size of dog.

You may continue to have diarrhea of the mouth though, after all it's a free world and everyone is entitled to their wrong opinions. The fact of the matter is it's only hurting you. Your belief that only pits bite, can and will be deadly.

So Please, before commenting on a subject, learn your facts and do your research. If you don't, all you have are uneducated opinons and the world has enough of them.

I have no idea what is wrong with pit bull haters. Pits make excellent pets as long as you don't treat them badly or train/teach them to fight. A friend of mine had an intact male pit and a 3 year old daughter that would pull, pinch and pound on him all the time, including his manly areas, and the dog never flinched. Pits get a bad rep b/c the media and dumb people make it that way. It's all in how they are raised. Owners make dogs mean, ALL DOGS, not just pits. I am in the veterinary profession and we have this saying " If it had teeth, it will bite" whether it's a little Miniature Pinscher or a Rotty or a Pit. I deal with animals from animal shelters all the time that are at least half pit. In my experience, they have been some of the sweetest dogs I've met. Just b/c they have pit in their name, people don't want them. I have never met a pit that was aggressive towards me, and I poke them with needles and take their temps! My next dog will most likely be a pit.

People hate Pit Bulls because they are ignorant. Many people fear what they don't know, and they don't know pits so they just believe what ever they hear from the media. If the media tells them that pit bulls are vicious and mentally unstable they are going to believe it because they are uneducated and easily influence. Other people have just had a bad experience with one certain pit bull, so they immediately think that all pit bulls are like this. That is not true. It depends on the owner. If the owner can't provide the firm and consistent training the dog needs, then the dog will misbehave. I can not say enough good things about the breed. I have grown up with them and never had a problem with agression what so ever. They have amazing, strong personalities and are extremely smart and dedicated dogs. It is unfair how people judge dogs that they don't even know.

-for the person who though pit bulls and amstaffs are different, Pit bull is a generic term that people give to Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and American Pit Bull Terriers. Amstaffs can be registered as APBT's as well, but Staffordshire Bull Terriers are a totally different breed.

-for the person 2 posts below me, did you not read your own post?? It said one of the dogs was a boxer bull mastiff mix. A bull mastiff is not in any way a pit bull. You just contradicted yourself because you said "All dogs DO NOT have the "potential to attack". the ones that are bred and have instincts to attack are the ones that do, typically pits and rotties."... Good training is dominant over instincts. People have been attacked by all sorts of breeds. The latest incident I heard was by a Dalmation, a breed which was never bred for fighting. The dog wasn't even taken away from the stupid owners who couldn't train it properly. But if it was a pit bull, it would have been euthanized for sure.

It's exactly like you said. It's how the owner treats the animal to how it reacts. I suppose alot of people train pits to be mean and in response other people think they are naturally mean. The only thing that personally scares me is the fact that when they fight they like to go for the throat and that is a scary thought if you have small kids. Besides that I don't see where they are different from any other dog.

Bad reps? I read the stories EVERY week. Why are they banned in Europe? Why are people still so ignorant? I don't get it..
These dogs are just like spinners on a car. You show them off. Nothing more.

And if they're all SO well trained, as everyone says all the time, why do they run around without a leash?? Most of the time it's idiots with no self esteem having pit bulls.

I know, the media just plays up the pit bull stereotype. They'll report it was a pit bull attack even if was a poodle. I've seen people call boxers, english bulldogs, and even Labs pit bulls. I have a AmStaff and she is the sweetest dog in the world (not the brightest though) Smaller dogs are statistically more likely to bite, its just larger breeds like pits cause more damage when they do. Personally, I'd trust a pit before a chihuahua.

It's because of idiots who decide to buy one of them and treat them like fighters. A dog will react if you treat them with cruelty. Even a poodle or pug can act ferocious if you treat them like a fighter. Pits are commonly bought by people who only want them for the wrong reasons. They end up in their backyards, neglected, mistreated/abused, and therefore, act insane toward other animals/people. It's a sad situation. I've heard of so many people adopting pits and saying they are the sweetest dogs alive, but because of the idiots who mistreat them, they get a bad rep. I don't own a pit and never have, but I really like them bc they are smart dogs and I wish those people who mistreat them could see the good in these dogs instead of using them as fighters and mistreating them.

I don't know what peoples problem is with pits. I have owned them all my life. I have three kids and a three year old pit named domino, and he is the most protective dog over my kids that I have ever seen. My whole family loves him, he is the most loveable dog I have ever seen. It's not the breed that is bad, it's the owners that are to blame for how there dogs turn out.

The problem with pit bulls is that (even if it's true that they only attack as often as other dogs), the way the jaw is constructed, and the dog itself is built (bred for dog fighting), injuries by pits when they do attack, are much more serious than being bitten, let's say, by a poodle or a german shepherd.

I thought that amstaffs and pit bulls were different breeds? I think its so sad what people have done to the breed. They can be such smart, good dogs but people have ruined it to the extent that they are banned where i live. Its not the dogs fault.
