Well religionists are also arrogant as they think that humanity has some higher calling, so much that an extraterrestrial power would have a vested personal interest in our affairs.
However, it is everybody's right to their own opinion. That said that does not give you the right to attack one's other's belief according and/or with your beliefs, as that battle will never be resolved.
And to evolution, its ABSURD to think that the universe was created in 6 days. I personally believe that God made this world, but not in 6 days, as in our 24 hour system. A day could symbolize so much more, as how could our early ancestors some millennia ago understand a number as massive as millions or billions or trillions, as that is how much time the universe must have taken to form.
To be truly not-arrogant, you must be open-minded to everything. But that does not however mean that you must be gullible. People need to learn that CONSIDERING another person's views does not always mean that you have TAKEN on and accepted the perspective.
Case in point, when talking about atheism or agnosticism, try and not say things like "religion is dumb and pointless and obsolete and redundant". Accept the legitimacy of the opposition and the opposition will be more likely to concede and be open minded about your own views.
Remember it's not a battle or a war, and whoever is wins is the truth, humanity in our lifespans will never learn about anything you are bringing up in theory, so be careful not to be arrogant yourself while expressing your views.
That's just my 2 Cents.
Cheers.

i am atheist, and I have had this come up before also. I think it is a perfectly fair question. I have always said just the opposite. The main point that we always have and still continue to think we are at the height of our understanding of the universe. Of course everyday we make new discoveries and found out we really don't know much at all. Imagine what we will know in 500 years? The main reason I am an atheist is that we are chosing to accept answers put forth by people 2000 years ago who knew far less than us.
have you ever seen a really amazing magic trick? I mean really really amazing? To the point that you think, thats impossible. of course there is a logical rational reason, its just that we don't understand it. Just because we don't understand something doesn't mean the answer is "god." If you didn't understand how the magic trick was done, would the only remaining answer be it really is magic?

I cant speak for all athiests or agnostics but I as an agnostic dont claim to know anything. Thats the whole point. I am open to what the truth may be. As opposed to relgion, I dont claim to KNOW anything. I dont dis-credit most of the religous ideas out there, some of it is a bit too fairy taleish for my taste but as far as heaven vs. reincarnation goes, who know? No one really does. The truth is the truth, whatever it may be. MY God isnt an unmerciful, hateful, God. I know that. I know being moral goes way past sexual orientation, when we have sex and what skin color we marry. And I know MY God isnt hung up on burning people for an eternity like some sick sadistic wacko. I do believe in God and I believe in a God or some form of a higher power that is above us. I hope there is a Heaven because my newborn son is an angel and I look forward to holding him again someday.

I am agnostic, and by no means do I claim to know everything. In actuality, I am saying that there is no possible way to know. Agnostics by thier very definition claim to not be able to know.
EVOLUTION did not come from nothing. Have you ever heard of the Big Bang theory? You can learn all about it at www.nasa.gov. You really should examine the topic from both sides and come at it with some knowledge before you judge us all as arrogant.

This may not be the words you wish to here but proving in evolution does not disprove god. It only disproves how certains sects view the book of genisi. FYI, Alot of church groups accept religion (they dont preach about it ,but they dont say it didnt happen) , You have made a short sighted statement and it is serioulsy insulting your own intelligence. Do yourself a favor and read the book of genesis. Because it is absolutely obvious that you didn't. Either A) you never read it, or B) you decided you did and "wanted" to determine that it goes against evolution. Also, Your are just plain biggoted against chritianity, not religion, if so you would have posted something else attempting to disprove something about buhddism , shintuism or islam, but you didnt.
The only reason people conflict evolution with evolution is becuase they choose too by interpretation, There is absoulutley nothing in the bible that "flat out" contests it. On top of that , you fail to state why that would dispprove god. How would it? the only reference you make is to the bible (a book) not god ( being your trying to disprove) admit it you dont want god to exist (and iam not saying this from a christian viewpoint, but a psychological one) you are so full of yourself and for some reason you feel threatened by the possiblility of his existence. You dont want to read these words, but you know thats the truth, If you are an athiest thats fine but dont trade fronts of two unrelated things to make a point. evolution only conflicts with religion because people choose to and your following the train of idiotcy (face it dude you didn,t research the religuos side of it, but only the scientific side) If evolution were absoulutley proven to me, I would think that would be more evidence of god than the theory that we all are inbreds. (iam not saying this favoring christianity, cuz i dont have to, you are geared and biggoted and you know it, and to me i dont care but you scathed your own integredity by believing in idol claims without finding them out for yourself)

I am an atheist, and by asking "is there a way not to be arrogant," well yes there is...It's called not shoving your beliefs down other peoples' throats. I don't go parading my atheism down the road. In fact, only 2 people (besides you guys) know I'm one.
However, most religions have arrogance built right in when one of their goals is to convert other people. How about the inquisition when the options were convert to christianity or die?

I don't have the evidence to prove that God doesn't exist but I so strongly believe he doesn't that I don't wish to waste my time. I prefer knowledge and understanding of the world as it is, rather thanto persist with the delusion of a loving and merciful God, no matter how reassuring that may be.

When a truth becomes absolute in the mind of anyone (religionist, atheist or whatever) it leaves very little room for the seeking of more knowledge.

I am an agnostic and I would never claim to know everything. No one no matter what belief system could ever live long enough to learn everything there is to be learned. I reject religion because it does not fit who I am; thus it becomes a personal decision and is aimed only at myself.

I am an Atheist and do NOT know everything. In fact, I know very little. However, I know enough to understand there is no god. This is my personal oppinion however, and doesn't mean there is no god, it just means that I've chosen to believe there is none.
