American Pit Bull Terriers/American Staffordshire Terriers.
Why? Because they're smart, loving, they'll do anything to please their owner, they're sweet, loyal, and their personality matches mine more then any other breed.
I also like the way they look.

The Japanese Chin. They were bred in Japan for hundreds of years and, it is believed, originated about the first century A.D. in China or Korea. Rather than being bred for a job such as ratting, guarding, herding, etc., the Japanese Chin has been bred for no purpose other than pleasing it's people.
The Chin is a single-hair shedder with no undercoat so, while they do shed, a 4 minute combing once a day keeps the majority of the shedding under control. Since they have no undercoat, they do not have two huge coat blowing instances a year like so many long-coated dogs have. Additionally, although the coat is long and luxurious, they do not need to be taken to a groomer ~ just comb them yourself, daily. Because they are so cat-like in their habits, including cleaning themselves, it is rare that any of mine require a bath more than 2-3 times a year.
They are a quiet, dignified, cat-like little dog that enjoy high places such as the back of the sofa or chair, a wide windowsill or wherever they can get. Several times a day, they will jump down and do all kinds of tricks and antics aimed to entertain you and make you laugh. They *love* their people. They are non-destructive. They housebreak in less time than you can possibly imagine.
They seldom bark and, when they do, it's just a few short, low 'woofs' rather than the high-pitched, ear-splitting barks usually associated with a toy breed.
I've had many pets, particularly dogs, through the years, but none have equalled the Japanese Chin.

The good old Australian Cattle dog. The Blue Healer. Have had two Blue's and they are the most faith full protective dog that you could possible own. Very intelligent with such a happy face. When I was younger I had German Shepard's and they were a very devoted dog as well and would class them as my second favourites but since having Blue Healers, you just can not beatém. Very much like the Aussie male. Slim, energetic and virile when they are in there prime but later on down the track they put on that grey ting, rough, roundness look to them like they have lead such a good life and now it's time to slow down and relax :()

I've had a few and it would be difficult to choose.
My black Lab because they are pretty laid back, great with kids, always attentive and watches the house (all around great dog)
I had a Doberman which was also fantastic (don't believe all the negative publicity). Superb stance, loyal, very easy to train and was good with children also. In fact he would protect the kids more than the adults.
I also had a boxer. Really a great fun dog and smartest dog I have ever seen. The only problem is that they have more energy than the EverReady bunny.

I love the shih tzu because they are fearless guard dogs of the temple....
I love the boxer because with a boxer in the house you don't need a burglar alarm OR a gun...
I love the simple mutt, the rescue dog, the dog you found at the pound, because the dog's life that you've saved will love you forever and one day might save your own.

Dobermans
I like the ability to think independantly and work with out aid of the owner. I like that they are hard headed and strong willed. I like that they ask "Why" you wnat them to do things and I like hte fact they were bred as a personal protcetion dog.
I also like Weimaraners.
I love to hunt and we have two really great hunting dogs. They get along well with the dobermans and they have lots of personality. They are fun and very nice dogs. They are smart and they are fun to train and work with.

For our family I love our rat terriers. We wanted a breed that would be good w/ kids and they certainly are! The only 'downside' is that terriers in general are yappy, but w/ work that can be trained out of them.
I also am a big fan of labs, but we don't have the house or yard space for them.
