When you want to know exactly, that's not only the brand that determine the quality of the product. Nowadays big brands usually have very long line-ups.
For example : JL Audio has W0, W1, W3, W6, and W7 subs, that's not including the size and the version. For example :
12W6V2, 10W1V3, etc. And that's only for subwoofers.
The culprits are, even if one of the type for example the JL10W7 is a standout in its category, some other types maybe not as good, or even sound terrible.

From what I know, the highly regarded subs for now are the JL Audio10W7, Mass Engineering UL12, Cervin Vega Stroker Pro 15. That's for the hi-end price tag category. For the mid and low priced, I don't know, the brands maybe different.

personally i think the best quality and sound comes from Boston Acoustics g5. i got to hear one against a w7 and w6, and the boston was tighter, cleaner and clearer. but there are other great sounding subs out there. try these other brands.
