Okay. Get ready to read for a while :D
Lovely is the most faraway thing from hot a guy could say to you. I know this from experience. Lets start out with hot (I'm going to give you a comparison)
When a guy calls you hot, it means that they think you have a nice body, pretty much meaning they like your boobs, butt, legs, hips, curves, ect. They like you for your lady parts. They're "Sexually attracted" to you, and nothing more. When a guy calls you hot, it doesn't mean anything much except for that. So don't take it as much of a compliment. (I dunno if you would or not, cuz I haven't met you before)
Now. When a guy calls a girl lovely, that has some meaning in it. That means that you are genuinely beautiful, and you have something to be proud of. You have a nice face, nice eyes, "great hair that flows in the wind". It's considering more than just the sexual parts of your body.
Now-Lovely could just as well refer to your curves, but in a different way. It's a more deep compliment, and usually more thought out. Like, guys will walk by a girl on the street and say,"Whew! She's smokin' hot!" That's just for the moment. just a walk-by, not considering anything but your curves. But when I walk down the street and whisper to one of my friends, "Whoa, that girl over there is lovely," It's a little more thought out and deep.
Now, I hope you followed all of that, because I sure didn't. I hope it helped :D So pretty much, I'd say that you're better looking than your cute and sexy friend.

Not really. You both might just go for the types of guys that choose those particular words. Guys who say gorgeous or lovely may be more of a sweet heart so they use words that are not more normal like cute or sexy. While the guys your friend talks to are more straight forward so they say words like 'cute' or 'sexy'. I think there is a difference in the words but it still means you are good looking, just depends on the guy and how he prefers to tell you.

a "hot" girl is a girl who usually dresses sexy or provocative and has a smokin body. a "gorgeous" girl or "lovely" girl has a beautiful face. Very nice features but her sexuality doesn't necessarily stand out. Maybe it's because she is more modest or wears modest clothing. She's not flaunting it.
That's my opinion anyway.

If guys say your pretty or gorgeous, there just complimenting you, sometimes if they say hot or sexy, it means it turns them on and they can imagine themselves on you.

maybe im just wired different,... but....
a girl can be hot
cute
sexy
beautiful
or pretty
all or them mean something different to me.... and its hard to explain the diff.
maybe its some kinda Synesthesia or something.
(err thats a disorder where sounds have colors or flavors)
(or different shapes make diff noise... kinda like a permenant)
(acid trip... but not involving drugs)
(everyone is born with it.. but usualy wears off before you are 2yr)
(i think some girls are hot that im not attracted to all.)

they're both good. if someone is looking for sex, then sexy is good, i guess.
i believe that "gorgeous, cute, and lovely" are more respectful ways to talk to girls.
