Heartburn is obviously quite common and as such there are a number of over the counter meds to treat it. Things like Mylanta and Rolaids work to neutralize the acids, reducing the overall amount of acid in your stomach. Other meds like Pepsid, work to shut down the cells that produce acid in the first place, but this takes a little longer to have take effect.
As one person suggested, do not drink milk. That is basically a wives tale. It feels good going down, basically soothing the esophagus, but due to the calcium and proteins in the milk, will only serve to generate even more acid production.
If you continue to feel the burning sensation you may have some esophageal damage due to prolonged exposure to stomach acid. This would require a prescription treatment that over time will reduce the acids and allow you to heal the damage.
In any case, avoid coffee, tea, tobacco in any form and overeating, all cause excessive acid production. If you get no relief, see your physician.

Make sure you are chewing your food very well and eat balanced moderate amounts.
Avoid or at least minimize sugars, alcohol, peppermint, spearmint, chocolate, caffeine, fatty foods, milk, orange juice, spicy foods, and tomato products they all aggravate it according to The Doctors Complete Guide To Vitamins And Minerals.
Muscles can have knots (trigger points) that make them tight which in turn put pressure on nerves and other things causing pain.
Molasses - a couple of swigs or Bananas 1 or 2 - both contain magnesium and potassium for muscles.
Try working with the principles taught in The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
I use a chiropractor and massage therapist with it

Oh man, I've had it all day too. I woke up w/it. Usually a cup of warm ginger ale or hot tea works, or Rolaids, Tums, or I drink Mylanta straight out the bottle.

You really shouldn't mix alot of different medicines but I use PeptoBismal if my peptocomplete doesn't work. You might also want to try drinking a glass of milk.
