I'll give you one major issue that affects both society and politics and that's Islamic Fundamentalism. Fundamentalism is a branch of Islam that takes a literal interpretation of the Quran. There interpretations, as well as an extreme hatred of the West, are a couple of reasons why they conduct suicide bombing attacks.
