take the age of your dog and multiply it times 7 that figures human years. If you know what can go wrong with humans at that age you can know what goes wrong with dogs. typically smaller dogs live longer then large dogs. 18 years is typical. of course they loose there eye sight and there hearing. have a harder time walking. ect ect ect

There is a common disease small dogs get when they get alot of seizures. It is often called "The Backward Sneeze". My dog has it and my sister's dog has it. They are both small dog breeds. It happens in both young and old dogs. They start making a funny noise and they won't move. They just sit there making this noise. The best thing to do is let them get some fresh air(open a door) and make sure water is near. Cuddle them lots and they will get through it. Although in older dogs it is much worse. They are alot weaker and if it happens when they are really old it often results in death. I used to have a teacher whose small dog was 12 and had a seizure and died from it.

All dogs of age....10+ may experience cataracts which are a clouding of the lens of the eye. This causes slow and eventual loss of sight. I have a 13 year old Shih Tzu that navigates by sight and smell. We don't move the furniture.....

Well, about your aunts dog, if you's has a seziure, keep it calm. Do not get it excited. Stroke its fur and hold it in your lap. It MAY, I repeat may swallow its tongue. It is not possible to fully swallow you tongue, since there is skin connected on the bottom. If this happens, simply and gently take the tongue from the throught. Good luck! I can't help you with anything else.

they can get heartworms - you don't know anything's wrong until they get listless and have no appetite. It would be best to have her checked by a vet. they can prescribe medicine that prevents heartworms.
