I am a high school baseball pitcher. I am righthanded and sometimes while I pitch, especially when I throw hard, I get sharp pains on my left side up and to the left of my heart. It hurts to breathe for a minute and then it feels like i pulled something the rest of the day. This happens almost everytime i pitch. I have seen a doctor about it and they said to ice it down. I am also not going to give up pitching or baseball for anything no matter what so i will definatley not tell my coach.

You should tell your coach though, there may be one small thing that you are doing wrong that he may have a suggestion for, he may also have some suggestions that your doctor wouldn't know about.

Muscles can have knots (trigger points) that make them tight which in turn put pressure on nerves and other things causing pain.
Molasses - a couple of swigs or Bananas 1 or 2 - both contain magnesium and potassium for muscles.
Try working with the principles taught in The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
I use a chiropractor and massage therapist with it

The violent motion of a hard pitch places considerable stress on your back. It sounds as if the motion is causing one of your ribs to slip slightly out of place or straining your innercostal muscles (the muscle between your ribs). I agree with the user who told you to get a second opinion from a physician.
