I must have missed the question. My son had roto three times his first year. It's actually common at any age. With us (older) it just seems like a stomach bug or flu. With infants and elderly, they get dehydrated so easily with the vomiting and diarrhea. Hospitalization is scary for a parent but he is in good hands. They'll check his white blood cell count often and iv fluids. To help prevent roto in the future, wash hands before eating from now on and wash hands after changing diapers. Roto originates in the stool and is transmitted when we touch our eyes, mouth (you get the idea). Gross, but pretty common. Hope this info helps. Our pediatrician explained it to me, also I am an RN.

Dehydration is one of the most significant potential complications for infected children in some cases. An infant or toddler may need to be treated with intravenous (IV) fluids in a hospital.
It is good he's in the hospital to get the fluid replacement and the doctors will help with the neutrapenia also. Sometimes that comes from the dehydration.
