I personally think it's really rude to ask someone to participate on your wedding, make them wear the clothes you choose, and then make them pay.
I paid for my bridesmaids dresses and their flowers. All they had to do is showing up with decent shoes and hairdo. If I couldn't afford it, then I wouldn't ask more than 3 people to be my bridesmaids.

In my experience, the bridesmaids are responsible for the dress and shoes. The jewelry is provided by the bride so everyone matches.
Except for my bridesmaids, who welched out on paying me for the dresses. I always paid my way for the honor of being a friend's bridesmaid.

I was a bridesmaid in 2 weddings (1980s). I paid for my dresses and all the assorted expenses. My best friend and sister paid for the bouquets and I received some thank you gifts.
I was married in 1988. I had 2 bridesmaids (my sister and my best friend). They both paid for their dresses and assorted expenses. I paid for their bouquets and thank you gifts.
It has not been my experience to have the bride pay for the dresses (at least with my friends and family). If the bride can afford the expenses and wants to do it, all the better. Good for her.

Yep, bridesmaids pay for their own dresses, which is why most bridesmaids have only a few guidelines to follow with fabric and style.
Shoes, hair, make-up, gloves, nylons, travel, hotel, meals (except rehearsal and wedding dinners), drinks(!) (except for table wine), everything like that the bridesmaid foots the bill for, except her bouquet of flowers.

The bridesmaids are responsible for purchasing the dress and shoes. The bride will buy the bouquet and usually give a thank you gift (such as jewelry).

You know, it's pretty funny, I was in a wedding this weekend, specifically as a bridesmaid, and once again, it all depends on the bride, I think you have to pay for the renting expenses of the dresses but thats it. Unless you need to but shoes, accesories, hair accesories and the hair do in the salon.

Traditionally teh bride pays. But I guess if you are having a not too formal wedding and the dresses could be worn at another time and are different then they cold pay for them. Depends how close you are to the bridesmaids and how they may react!

it relatively is further and extra uncomplicated for the bride to %. the colour (and at times even length, cloth, etc.) and have the bridesmaids %. their outfits. I see no longer something incorrect with it. a similar type will possibly no longer be flattering on all physique types. i might, besides the undeniable fact that, advise all shoes be comparable as obtainable if the outfits are no longer floor length. i've got seen photos the place the BMs have been all allowed to positioned on despite shoes they needed, and that ended up looking lots worse than BMs picking their very own gown type. That being suggested, a pal of mine is getting married next 12 months and we are all picking our very own outfits. Works out suited for me as i've got had some formals in the previous 12 months that i've got attended and the black gown i bought for them will artwork high quality for my buddy's wedding ceremony. presented, of direction, i will nevertheless in high quality condition into it.
